Kampala- The Aga Khan has described Africa as a continent of opportunity and hope.

LONDON - In her first solo British exhibition, “At the Corner of a Dream,” Egyptian activist Bahia Shehab voiced powerful messages on a variety of themes presented through five short videos reflecting on Arab revolts.

The videos showcased at London’s Aga Khan Centre are digital artworks produced this year. They follow on the poetry murals inspired by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish that Shehab painted in Cairo, New York, Beirut and Marrakech, as well as the Greek island of Kefalonia.

On 8 November, 2019 His Highness the Aga Khan was joined by His Excellency, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic for the inauguration of the Ismaili Imamat’s donation of a surgical robot system to one of Portugal’s largest medical universities, the Centro Hospitalar Universitario de Lisboa Central. The Minister of Health, Madame Marta Temido, government officials, diplomats, and leaders of the Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili Imamat were also in attendance.

While making the inaugural speech at the All India Mohammedan Educational Conference of 1911, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah stated, “In order to raise our people to their legitimate sphere of power, influence and usefulness, we must have a serviceable and extended system of education…If our people take to science and scientific education in the right spirit, the industrial and economic future of our community will no longer be in doubt."

“El Gusto” tells the story of an old Algerian orchestra, which included both Muslim and Jewish musicians, reborn.

Like a mythical phoenix rising from its ashes, the documentary “El Gusto” tells the story of an old Algerian orchestra reborn to a new life. The film, which was first released in 2012, was screened by the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival before a warmly appreciative audience at the Ismaili Jamatkhana, an Islamic religious center in Norcross.

Minister inaugurates 306kW hydropower station in Chitral

CHITRAL: Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan inaugurated the 306-kilowatt hydropower station in far-flung Gazen village of Yarkhoon valley here on Saturday.

The project was completed by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, which would electrify 335 households of the five sparsely-populated villages.

This landmark activity is in-line with the global month-long project Pinktober

On 10 October 2019, Princess Zahra, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Sara Boyden, was honoured with the Asia Society Texas Center’s Huffington Award in Houston, USA. Princess Zahra was honoured for her outstanding contributions that have furthered international understanding, uplifted lives, and advanced health and education through her work with the Aga Khan Development Network.

BISHKEK (TCA) — The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov inaugurated the Conference on Digital Transformation in Central Asia (DTCA) on October 4 in Bishkek. This three-day international Conference is jointly hosted by the University of Central Asia (UCA), State Committee for Information Technology and Communications, and the High Technology Park of the Kyrgyz Republic, and includes a day-long session at UCA’s campus in Naryn.
