Posted July 13th, 2024 by librarian-hdEarlier today, Prince Amyn, Prince Hussain, and Princess Fareen attended an Imamat Day reception at the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat, along with senior leaders of the Portuguese government, members of the diplomatic community, civil society, and Jamati and AKDN leaders.
Prince Amyn extended a warm welcome to guests at the event, which was held to commemorate Mawlana Hazar Imam’s 67th Imamat Day. He spoke of the Imamat’s partnership with Portugal to improve the lives of people.

The Mayor of Sintra awarded the town's Municipal Merit Medal to Prince Amyn Aga Khan, in recognition of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF)'s many years of work to enhance the quality of life in the local area.
The honour was bestowed at the Town Hall during the Municipality Day celebrations hosted by Sintra City Council last week.

The Ismaili reported “ Prince Amyn was yesterday honoured with the gold medal of Castelo Branco in recognition of his efforts to promote arts and culture in Portugal and around the world.
This prestigious award, the city's highest distinction, was unanimously approved by the Municipal Council, and presented during the 253rd-anniversary celebrations of Castelo Branco's elevation to city status.

Members of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s family and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa were present to mark this milestone moment for the Jamat in Portugal.
Prince Amyn, Prince Rahim, and Prince Aly Muhammad joined guests to celebrate a momentous occasion — 25 years of the Centro Ismaili, Lisboa. Since opening in 1998, the building has stood tall, embodying the principles of pluralism, knowledge sharing, and dialogue.

They were accompanied by the Secretary of State for Culture, Isabel Cordeiro; the Museum Director, José Alberto Ribeiro; the Diplomatic Representative of the Ismaili Imamat to Portugal, Nazim Ahmad; and the President of the Ismaili Council for Portugal, Rahim Firozali.

Aga Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam and spiritual leader of the Ismaili Shia Muslims, is the most recent Portuguese citizen . The announcement was made by the President of the Republic during the closing ceremony of the Aga Khan Music Awards, which took place in Lisbon this Sunday. The attribution of Portuguese citizenship was approved by the government two weeks ago, but only now announced by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and in recognition of the actions undertaken by the Prince in favor of the Portuguese Republic .
