Let me first say how grateful I am for your invitation to speak to this distinguished audience in Karachi today and for your kind words about my family and about myself.
Perhaps I should begin by defining what I mean by the phrase “Nation States”. First it is the land area or areas over which a single government exercises authority in terms of internal administration and external defense and whose frontiers are recognized, legally or de facto, by other nation states.

The University's 232nd baccalaureate service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, in the Meeting House of the First Baptist in America, near the Brown University campus in Providence, R.I. The text of the President Gregorian's introduction follows.

US Ambassador unveils refurbished Qutub Shahi Tombs in Hyderabad 2020-03-10

The US Consulate General Hyderabad financially patronized the Aga Khan Foundation for the conservation and preservation of two tombs under the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.

The Jaffria Allience Pakistan organised a majlis at the Nishtar Park. The programme was presided over by Syed Razi Jaffer Naqvi. Provincial local government and information minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh Assembly opposition leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi and Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar were among the guests. The programme was moderated by Haider Abbas.

Each visit is like a whiff of fresh air, since it addresses different issues and brings laurels for Pakistan. The Royal visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Pakistan in October 2019 raised focus on climate change but equally importantly, it showcased that local communities have tremendous potential to plan and manage their own development, once they are organized and provided access to necessary skills and capital.

Milk processing workshop opened in Naryn by UCA and the Aga Khan Foundation 2020-02-20

The workshop will provide students with practical experience, help prepare qualified experts in milk-processing in Naryn region, as well as allow for commercial sale, enabling the workshop to become fully self-sustainable, UCA said.

To do so in the presence of my old friend Brad Morse gives me particular pleasure. To me Mr. Morse is a symbol of a new pragmatism in development thinking that I sense in both the industrialized states and among the heterogeneous group of countries that are confusingly lumped together as the Third World. That term reminds me of a speaker who was explaining the role of UNDP.
