The Global Pluralism Award recognizes pluralism in action and celebrates the inspiring and brave work that is helping to build more inclusive societies where diversity is valued and protected.
Winners were selected by a jury of international experts from a range of disciplines and backgrounds, including foreign affairs, philanthropy and human rights.

U-Michigan welcomes Princess Zahra Aga Khan and Aga Khan University delegation 2023-10-31
Posted October 31st, 2023 by librarian-hdThe University of Michigan welcomed Princess Zahra Aga Khan and representatives from Aga Khan University‘s campuses in Pakistan and Kenya on Oct. 30.
Senior leadership from both universities formally signed a memorandum of understanding, powered by a $900,000 gift from AKU to U-M to expand ongoing collaborative efforts.

Pope Francis has special audience with Prince Rahim as part of series of interreligious encounters in Lisbon
Posted August 4th, 2023 by librarian-hdAs Pope Francis returned to the Apostolic Nunciature ahead of lunch on Friday, he held a series of brief meetings with three separate delegations, according to the Holy See Press Office.
The Pope met first with a delegation from the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), accompanied by Cardinal Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, prefect of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue.
Pope Francis then held a private audience with Rahim Aga Khan, son of the leader of the Ismaili community, which has its center in Lisbon.

Centro Ismaili: 25 years of a Lisbon landmark 2023-07-12
Posted July 16th, 2023 by librarian-hdThe Ismaili Centre Lisbon hosted a special celebration this evening to mark a quarter-century since its inauguration. Members of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s family and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa were present to mark this milestone moment for the Jamat in Portugal.
Prince Amyn, Prince Rahim, and Prince Aly Muhammad joined guests to celebrate a momentous occasion — 25 years of the Centro Ismaili, Lisboa. Since opening in 1998, the building has stood tall, embodying the principles of pluralism, knowledge sharing, and dialogue.

Institut de France and the Town of Chantilly honour Mawlana Hazar Imam’s work in Chantilly 2023-06-03
Posted June 10th, 2023 by librarian-hdThe Institut de France and the Town of Chantilly hosted the event to honour Hazar Imam's commitment to the town of Chantilly, an area with which Mawlana Hazar Imam and his family have strong historic ties. Prince Amyn represented Hazar Imam at the unveiling of a plaque at the Great Stables and the “His Highness the Aga Khan Road” sign. Also present were Princess Zahra, Prince Hussain, Prince Aly Muhammad, and Hazar Imam’s grandson, Iliyan. Prince Amyn delivered a speech including a message of gratitude from Mawlana Hazar Imam.

Prince Hussain Aga Khan starts Canadian Living Seas Exhibition in Calgary 2023-05-18

On 18 May, Prince Hussain and Princess Fareen attended an event hosted by the University of Calgary. In front of an audience comprising faculty and staff, as well as community and Jamati representatives, Prince Hussain delivered a keynote address.

Aga Khan University Graduates 777 Students, Celebrates Founder's Day and 40th Anniversary 2023-03-18
Posted March 18th, 2023 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan University on Saturday celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2022, its first-ever Founder's Day and the University's 40th anniversary. Simultaneous ceremonies were held in Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and broadcast online to an international audience of AKU's friends and supporters. Princess Zahra Aga Khan attended the ceremony in Karachi and shared a message from His Highness the Aga Khan, Founder and Chancellor of the University. Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah was the Chief Guest.

Prince Rahim (Vice President Designate) attended the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration 2023-03-13
Posted March 14th, 2023 by librarian-hdEarlier today, Prince Rahim attended the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration, in the presence of His Majesty The King, Head of the Commonwealth, at Westminster Abbey in London, England.
Prince Rahim, representing Mawlana Hazar Imam, led the procession of Loyal Societies in his capacity as Vice President-designate of the Royal Commonwealth Society.
Following the event, Prince Rahim met with His Majesty The King, as well as senior members of the royal family and delegates including representatives from other faith communities.

Prince Rahim and the President of Portugal visit the Royal Treasure Museum 2023-02-24
Posted March 4th, 2023 by librarian-hdPrince Rahim, together with his younger son, Prince Sinan, and the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, yesterday visited the Royal Treasure Museum at the Ajuda National Palace in Lisbon, at the invitation of the Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva.
They were accompanied by the Secretary of State for Culture, Isabel Cordeiro; the Museum Director, José Alberto Ribeiro; the Diplomatic Representative of the Ismaili Imamat to Portugal, Nazim Ahmad; and the President of the Ismaili Council for Portugal, Rahim Firozali.

Posted January 22nd, 2023 by librarian-hdPrince Rahim attended a special event in London on 18 January to honour the contributions of Dr Farhad Daftary to The Institute of Ismaili Studies, and more broadly to the fields of Ismaili and Islamic studies, as he steps down from his management roles at The Institute.
Prince Rahim announced that Mawlana Hazar Imam has decided to acknowledge Dr Daftary’s contributions to The Institute by attaching his name to forthcoming PhD Scholarships awarded by IIS — they will be known as The Farhad Daftary PhD Scholarships.

He received his secondary education at Deerfield Academy, Massachusetts, and graduated from Williams College, Massachusetts, with a dual degree in theatre and French literature. In 2004, he received a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. At Columbia, Hussain’s main area of study was Economic and Political Development with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa.
