Owning some of the most extravagant and fabulous pieces of jewellery in the world just comes with the territory when you are married to the Aga Khan. Such was the case for Princess Andrée, the Parisian shop owner turned royal, who became the third wife of Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah, Aga Khan III, in 1929.

Amongst her trousseau was an Egyptian style diamond and platinum tiara from Cartier, bought by her new husband in 1934. It features stylised lotus flowers set onto a diamond band, and is intended to be worn high on the head.

The assembly to his mind represented all that was best in the Muslims of India. It expressed that awakening sense of their
fallen position after a glorious past; it expressed dissatisfaction with their present intellectual, moral and social position; and it expressed the longing desire to regain the intellectual freedom which Muslims enjoyed during the first two centuries of their era. Pessimism was not the force, said the Aga Khan, that had drawn them there that day. Pessimism in the Muslim world was nothing new:

At first sight, the Mausoleum of the Agha Khan in Aswan may appear to you as an austere and isolated building, on the west bank of the Nile River. Inspired by the architecture of the Cairo Fatimids, the structure is recognizable by its elegance and by its special use of pink granite. It was built at the request of the begum, wife of the Aga Khan III who died in 1957.The begum Aga Khan; who died in 2000, lived in the white villa below but closed the mausoleum to the public in 1997 to allow the deceased to rest in peace away from the bustle of the living.

The Ismaili Volunteers Corp began in 1919. It was comprised of a few khaki-clad social workers known as His Highness The Aga Khan's Bombay Volunteers Corps. In 1920, Mowlana Sultan Muhammad Shah, pleased with the work performed by the Bombay Volunteers Corp, granted them the "Coat of Arms" to be worn as part of their uniform. This officially established the Volunteer Corps as an organized body. Mowlana Sultan Muhammad Shah wore it's uniform for the first time in 1921 in His capacity as Colonel of the Corps.

Imposing Urdu as a national language on then-East Pakistan actually damaged ‘national unity,’ rather than bolstering it
Dr. Naazir Mahmood, in his book of collected essays Politics Pictures Personalities (2005), highlights some “mistakes” of Pakistan soon after Partition in 1947, suggesting these foreshadowed the “big” mistakes it was to make later.
