All-weather road built by AKRSP promises Baroghil valley’s development 2021-06-30
Posted July 6th, 2021 by librarian-hdCHITRAL: The residents of Baroghil valley in Chitral region insist that the recent construction of an all-weather road to Baroghil promises the development of the underdeveloped valley in the country’s northernmost region.
According to them, basic facilities are largely unavailable to them as the valley remains inaccessible for seven months of the year due to harsh weather conditions.
The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme recently built the 32km road with four suspension bridges at the cost of Rs102.28 million. It provides all-weather access to the valley.

Pakistani women scale the heights in rescue teams
Posted February 18th, 2021 by librarian-hdShamim Bano, a middle-school teacher, has recently returned from a fortnight in Kabul where she taught Afghan women to do search and rescue work. The training “involved climbing mountains and gorges using ropes and harnesses, using ziplines and rappelling. Any wrong move and you can start a rock fall,” she explained.
Handling serious casualties, “with broken bones, head, neck and back injuries,” was also part of the training, she added.

Chitral to get Covid-19 testing facility from The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan
Posted May 24th, 2020 by librarian-hdCHITRAL: The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, (AKHSP), has planned to set up a testing facility of Covid-19 in Chitral and has started the process of importing the machine and allied equipment.
AKHSP regional head Mirajuddin said this while speaking at a ceremony arranged at the inauguration of 28-bedded Covid-19 Response Centre in Booni, Upper Chitral.
He said that establishing a testing facility had become essential in Chitral as sending a swab sample of a suspected patient to Peshawar entailed heavy expenses.

Hunza valley becomes Asia’s first plastic free zone 2020-01-28

PTI Govt. is planning to replicate the success of the project in other provinces.
“Hunza district has been declared a plastic-free zone while on the other hand Hunza valley has become the first district in Asia to be plastic-bag free,” said Aslam. “The people of Hunza deserve congratulations for implementing the ban. I hope they will continue cooperating with the administration to keep the city clean and free of plastic bags,”

CHITRAL: Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan inaugurated the 306-kilowatt hydropower station in far-flung Gazen village of Yarkhoon valley here on Saturday.
The project was completed by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, which would electrify 335 households of the five sparsely-populated villages.

It also includes the habitat related activities of Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP) and the Mountain Societies’ Development Support Program (MSDSP). The latter is operating in Tajikistan’s Gorno Badakhshan Oblast.

Preparations for Aga Khan’s arrival in full swing in Chitral
Posted December 2nd, 2017 by librarian-hdCHITRAL: Preparations are in full swing here for receiving Prince Karim Aga Khan, the 49th Imam of Ismaili Muslim community, who is scheduled to arrive in the second week of December in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of his Imamat.
A source in the Ismaili regional council of Chitral, requesting not to be named, told this scribe that the followers of Ismaili sect would have a sight of their spiritual leader in Booni and Garam Chashma, for which two Didaar Gaahs (place of sighting) were near completion.

Prince Karim Aga Khan is likely to visit Chitral and Northern Areas, later next month tentatively, it was learnt from sources here. The visit would be in connection with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of his Imamat. The Aga Khan would also call on the President and Prime minister of Pakistan to discuss matters of mutual interest. (CN report).

The festival is of Iranian origin and is celebrated in the Ismaili majority areas of Mastuj, Laspur, Yarkhoon, Khot, Rech, Karimabad and Lotkoh valleys on 21st March. The main feature of the festival is general cleanliness of the houses, exchange of gifts and merry-making of different natures including musical concerts. Different games are played by the youth-folk while the elders pay visits to their relatives and friends.
