Posted July 8th, 2019 by librarian-hdEstablished in 2017 the AKAH includes the legacy programs and initiatives of the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services (AKPBS) including Water Sanitation Extension Program (WASEP), FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance, the Disaster Risk Management Initiative (DRMI), the Portfolio Management Office (PMO), and the Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan Fund for the Environment (PSAKFE). It also includes the habitat related activities of Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP) and the Mountain Societies’ Development Support Program (MSDSP). The latter is operating in Tajikistan’s Gorno Badakhshan Oblast.

Restoration of 150-year-old Paigah Tombs begins; focus is also on making landscape attractive
Posted July 8th, 2019 by librarian-hdHyderabad: Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) which is working on the restoration of Qutb Shahi Tombs has now taken up the renovation of Paigah Tombs, also known as the Taj Mahal of the Deccan.
The nearly 150-year-old necropolis is located near Santosh Nagar.
Paigah Nawabs were next only to the Nizams in military, political and economic power who ruled Hyderabad State from 1724 to 1948.
Though Paigah Tombs are part of the historical and architectural heritage of Hyderabad they have been lying in a state of neglect for several decades.

Aga Khan is a title held by the Imam of the Nizari Isma’ili Shias. Since 1957, the holder of the title has been the 49th Imam, Prince Shah Karim al-Husseini, Aga Khan, a business magnate with British citizenship, as well as a racehorse owner and breeder, after succeeding his grandfather.

When the Aga Khan’s private jet touched down in Atlanta, he must have had an inkling of the type of reception he would receive.
The spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims, a Shia sect with an estimated 15-20 million adherents worldwide, had visited the city a decade ago during his 50th anniversary year.

Aga Khan University Wins Medical Quiz Contest 2019-06-19
Posted June 19th, 2019 by librarian-hdKARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jun, 2019 ) :Aga Khan University (AKU) here on Wednesday won the All Pakistan Medical Quiz competition organized by the Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU).
The two-day event was participated by 16 teams of students, representing different medical colleges and universities from across the country.
The semi-final round of the competition was won, after a tough contest, by the teams of AKU, JSMU, Liaqat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

Mtanya Matuja: The partnership between AFD and the AKDN

Kassim Majaliwa launched the completion of the second phase of a US$ 79.8 million (TZS 183 billion) expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, which will enable the institution to serve over one million patients each year. The expansion was funded by a US$ 53.5 million (TZS 134 billion) loan from the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement - AFD) and a US$ 26.3 million (TZS 58 billion) contribution from the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

Ismaili volunteers serve orphanage 2019-06-05

“This work is part of the civil society support and engagement which we carry out in different parts of the country to promote the spirit of humanity as propagated by Islam. Today, we are distributing Iftar dinner for this orphanage, which houses 700 children.

The new Curragh Racecourse was officially opened today by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar and His Highness the Aga Khan.
The centrepiece of the redeveloped racecourse is the Aga Khan Stand which can cater for up to 6,000 people over four levels.
The two-year, multi million euro redevelopment includes the spectacular new Aga Khan Stand, refurbished stable yards and parade ring and bespoke facilities including conference capabilities and restaurants.
In addition, the gallops which are located across the Curragh plains have also been upgraded.

Aga Khan to help Maharashtra agriculture sector 2018-03-01

Lauding the efforts of the state government for tribal development, the visiting spiritual leader said he will consider extending support to finish incomplete irrigation projects in Maharashtra and create livelihood opportunities for tribals in remote areas.

The government of Pakistan has designated 2019 as the year of nursing. Recognising their role in promoting universal healthcare and safeguarding women’s rights, the government is working to enhance the role and voices of nurses and midwives in making a health policy. These views were expressed by speakers at the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) at an event held on Friday in honour of International Midwives’ Day and International Nurses Day. The former is commemorated on May 5 and the latter on May 12 annually across the globe.

President Yoweri Museveni has said that he is ready for the ground breaking ceremony for the Aga Khan University Hospital in Kampala , Uganda.
The President was yesterday speaking at a meeting he held with the diplomatic representative of the Aga Khan Development Network and a senior executive team from the Aga Khan University Mr. Firoz Rasul at State House Entebbe.
In December 2015, President Museveni and His Highness the Aga Khan laid a brick at the Nakawa site to symbolize the foundation stone-laying for the Aga Khan University Hospital.
