Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa Aga Khan visit Pakistan 2018-11-29
Posted December 12th, 2018 by librarian-hd29 November 2018 - Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa Aga Khan travelled to Pakistan for a six-day working visit in late October 2018, which included stops in several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan as well as in Chitral district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, along with the capital city of Islamabad and the southern city of Karachi. During their visit, Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa examined approaches to poverty alleviation and development, and visited a number of AKDN institutions and projects aimed at improving quality of life.

'3D Projection Spectacular' among December attractions at Aga Khan Museum 2018-12-04
Posted December 12th, 2018 by librarian-hdThis December, the Aga Khan Museum transforms the perception that museums are only places for dusty artifacts, when its exterior walls become a massive canvas for Light up the Dark: A 3-D Projection Spectacular.
This video show goes beyond the typical holiday light display by using a technology called projection mapping, which will turn the museum’s white granite walls into a 53 m x 13 m screen where art comes to life.

I wish to thank the Government of Afghanistan and the United Nations for bringing the international community together to reaffirm our commitment to Afghanistan, and, most importantly, to its people.
Two years ago, many of us gathered in Brussels for a similar purpose. And there have been several such gatherings over the past some seventeen years. Commitments have been made, challenges overcome, hopes raised and sometimes dashed.

Aga Khan School Dhaka celebrates 30 years of education
Posted November 26th, 2018 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan School Dhaka was established in 1988 with only 25 students and seven teachers, and was headed by a principal.
Today the student body has grown to over 1,200 students with 200 teachers and staff, the Aga Khan Education Service in Bangladesh said on Monday.
“The rich school life is balanced by the equally strong commitment to academic pursuits, built on a rigorous curriculum that challenges students to engage in new learning opportunities, from the IB-Primary Years Program in the Junior section to the CIE and IBDP curricula in the Senior section.”

Prince Aly Muhammad visits the Naryn Campus of the University of Central Asia 2018-11-19
Posted November 26th, 2018 by librarian-hdEarlier this month, Prince Aly Muhammad completed a five-day, private visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, during which he visited the Naryn campus of the University of Central Asia. Prince Aly Muhammad spent time with students in Naryn to understand more about their backgrounds and aspirations.
“I was deeply inspired by the students and faculty I had the opportunity to meet during this trip. Getting to know so many talented students and learning more about the UCA’s mission has been exciting and deeply rewarding,” explained Prince Aly.

Aga Khan launches key training programme
Posted November 25th, 2018 by librarian-hdDar es Salaam — The Aga Khan School of Nursing and Midwifery has initiated a training programme--Respectful Maternity Care--with a view to providing skills to nurses, midwives and clinical officers in public hospitals, dispensaries and health centres.
The programme was launched yesterday with more than 50 trainees including nurses, midwives and clinical officers from Ilala and Temeke district councils in Dar es Salaam city.

The forum was in Askwith Hall in Longfellow Hall, at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The occasion was the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture, which she was there to give.
At a time when the world is grappling with issues of child-centered education, of women’s rights in Muslim societies, and of the loss of authentic local cultures under a wave of globalization, the princess spoke to all of these.

Agha Khan University Hospital invests Ksh600 million to fight cancer
Posted October 26th, 2018 by librarian-hdAga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi has announced that it has invested more than KES 600 million to become the first hospital in the region to introduce a state-of-the-art technology that will improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, heart disease and other diseases.
The Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanner and Cyclotron is the first such scanner in East and Central Africa. It enables physicians to study the body in extraordinary detail, allowing them to diagnose diseases early and plan the most effective course of treatment.

Prince Amyn Aga Khan is a lifelong supporter of cultural heritage in all its forms. He obtained a bachelor’s from Harvard University and a master’s from Harvard’s GSAS while studying in parallel at the New England Conservatory of Music. In 1964, he joined the United Nations Secretariat in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and later joined the Aga Khan’s Secretariat.

In a special ceremony on campus Wednesday, Chancellor Deborah Yedlin conferred an Honorary Doctor of Laws — UCalgary’s highest academic honour — on the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community.

New pavilion to be added to the Aga Khan Garden 2018-10-15
Posted October 16th, 2018 by librarian-hdThe University of Alberta is hoping to raise $4 million in order to build a new pavilion at the Aga Khan Garden.
On September 27, plans for the Aga Khan Garden Pavilion were outlined in a presentation at the General Faculties Council Facilities Development Committee. The pavilion will be a two-floor, 600 square metre, multipurpose gathering space that will support the University of Alberta Botanic Garden’s (UABG) activities. A completion date for the pavilion has not been set.
