•Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa bestowed the Grand Cross of the Order of Liberty on the Aga Khan with at Lisbon’s Belem Palace on Thursday.
•The Aga Khan was in Lisbon at the invitation of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa to receive an Honorary Doctorate for his longstanding commitment to improving the quality of life for some of the world’s vulnerable populations.

Posted July 24th, 2018 by librarian-hdLisbon, Portugal, 12 July 2018 – A second tranche of grant funding for research and education projects in the amount of € 2.5 million was announced by representatives of the Ismaili Imamat and Aga Khan Development Network as a week of activities concluded in Portugal celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of His Highness the Aga Khan.
The second tranche is intended to fund research that will improve the quality of life mainly in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa.

Posted July 19th, 2018 by librarian-hdToronto, Canada, 11 July 2018 - To mark His Highness the Aga Khan’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations taking place in Lisbon, the Aga Khan Museum has loaned a special exhibition of 17 artifacts to Portugal’s Assembly of the Republic. The exhibition is titled Ideals of Leadership: Masterpieces from the Aga Khan Museum Collections and includes captivating folios and colourful ceramics as well as exquisitely decorated wood and steel artifacts from Mughal, Ottoman, Persian, and Chinese empires dating from the 10th to the 19th centuries.

Aga Khan launches Sh25bn health project in Mwanza 2018-11-13

Mwanza. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has launched a Sh25.3 billion project that aims at minimizing diseases, maternal and child mortality rates and improving access to reproductive maternal and newborn health (Impact), in Mwanza Region.
The project will cover district councils of Kwimba, Magu, Misungwi, Nyamagana, Ukerewe, Sengerema, Ilemela and Buchosa and is jointly being financed by Agha Khan Foundation Canada and the government.

Birthday of Prince Aly Salomone Khan
Posted June 12th, 2018 by librarian-hdPrince Aly Khan was born in Turin (Torino) Italy on June 13, 1911. His mother was Cleope Teresa "Ginetta" Magliano.
In 1939, Prince Aly Aga Khan joined the French Foreign Legion and served with its cavalry division in Egypt and the Middle East. In 1940, he joined the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, becoming a lieutenant colonel in 1944. That same year, he participated in the Allied landing in the south of France with the United States Seventh Army, serving as a liaison officer with the rank of captain; for this, he was made an officer in the Legion of Honor in 1950.

Mughal-era Arab ki Sarai gateway restored to its old glory in Delhi 2018-05-28
Posted May 28th, 2018 by librarian-hdAccording to Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) listing of ancient structures in Delhi, Arab Sarai was built in 1560 by Hamida Banu Begum, who was chief consort of Mughal emperor Humayan, to accommodate 300 Arabs she had brought back from Mecca.
The lofty eastern gateway of a walled enclosure built in the 17th century — which was originally a market built during Jahangir’s reign along side Arab ki Sarai, Nizamuddin East — has been restored to its old glory.
The restorer, Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), began restoration work in January 2017.

Entitled Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, Humanitarian and Visionary (Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, Humaniste et Visionnaire), the book has been written by English-Swiss author Diana Miserez.

He is the spiritual leader of 15 million Ismaili Muslims, a significant number of whom call Canada home. He is a diplomat, social innovator, global humanitarian and someone with an unshakable belief in the values of pluralism, diversity and equality.
The Aga Khan was appointed as the 49th hereditary Imam of the world’s Shia Ismaili community upon his grandfather’s death in 1957, when he was just a 20-year-old and studying at Harvard.

Over the years, I have served on many boards and been involved with dozens of community initiatives. I am grateful for the people I’ve met through this work. I have learned a lot from those who have challenged me and those who have offered me a differing perspective than my own.

Shortly after his arrival, Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the Honourable John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia, who extended a warm welcome and congratulated him on his Diamond Jubilee.
Premier Horgan and Hazar Imam spoke about the Ismaili community's spirit of service and pluralism, and how this is an ideal reflection of the strength that diversity has brought to British Columbia.
