Kenya: Aga Khan University and Kenya Editors Guild Sign Training Deal 2021-06-22
Posted August 4th, 2021 by librarian-hdAga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications and Kenya Editors Guild on Monday signed a partnership agreement aimed at improving the quality of journalism in the country.
The partnership will see members of the guild undergo training at the university while the institution of higher learning will gain professional insights from the media practitioners.
Talks to forge the partnership began three years ago when it emerged during a panel discussion that there was a disconnect between the academia and practising journalists.

Aga Khan Hospital accredited as a centre of excellence in acute stroke management
Posted June 8th, 2021 by librarian-hdNAIROBI, Kenya June 4 – Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH,N) has been accredited as a Centre of Excellence for the management of Acute Primary Stroke, becoming the first hospital in Africa to achieve this certification.
The accreditation was granted by the Joint Commission International (JCI), the recognized global leader in health quality standards, following a rigorous Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) audit conducted in May 2021.

The Accords acknowledge the Aga Khan Development Network's contribution in the region. At the signing ceremony in Nairobi, President Moi of Kenya commended the institutions of the Development Network for actively serving Kenya in the fields of education and health for more than 50 years. "They were among the pioneers who opened up their institutions to people of all races and religion long before independence" Moi said.

State receives Covid-19 testing kits worth Ksh 44m from Aga Khan 2021-04-07
Posted April 7th, 2021 by librarian-hdAga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH,N) has donated over 20,000 Covid-19 testing kits valued at Ksh 44 million to the Ministry of Health to boost its Covid-19 response.
The donation is financed by the German government through a grant offered by the German Development Bank (KFW) to AKUH,N and the Aga Khan Health Services, East Africa, to boost their Covid-19 response and support the public health system.

German insurer buys into Jubilee Holdings 2020-09-30

The offer, subject to regulatory approvals, will see the Germany based firm acquire a controlling stake of between 51 and 66 per cent in Jubilee’s General Insurance business Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Mauritius, forming Jubilee-Allianz General Insurance Limited.
JHL will retain ownership of its Life and Pensions operations and its Medical insurance business in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Aga Khan Academy sets IB exams record 2020-09-03
Posted September 4th, 2020 by librarian-hdStudents at Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa have achieved record-breaking results in this year’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) amid the challenging Covid-19 learning period.
Top scorers have received admission call-ups to a number of prestigious universities including Yale and Cambridge. The students have further been offered over $7 million (Sh800 million) in university scholarships. The students attributed their success to hard work.

Aga Khan Hospital to offer free COVID-19 tests for inpatients 2020-05-
Posted May 22nd, 2020 by librarian-hdNAIROBI, Kenya, May 21 – The Aga Khan University Hospital has started conducting free COVID-19 tests for all in-patients, surgical and day surgery patients, in a precautionary measure aimed at combating the spread of the virus.
The hospital said the move will help it determine the best approach to care for its patients including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) during their admission.

How Kenyatta's Control of Nation Media Was Thwarted

In a 2010 book titled The Birth of a Nation: The Story of a Newspaper in Kenya, Gerard Loughran, a former senior editor at the Daily Nation, narrates what transpired after Kenyatta made a proposition for one of his kinsmen to lead the firm.
After the Aga Khan opened Serena Hotel in a ceremony attended by Kenya’s founding father on February 16, 1976, Mzee introduced the businessman to his chosen candidate.
