The University of Michigan and Aga Khan University have agreed to deepen their collaboration across a range of academic and scientific initiatives to transform data science for global health.

Joseph Kolars, director of the U-M Center for Global Health Equity, and AKU Provost and Vice President Carl Amrhein signed an agreement between the two institutes during a virtual ceremony on June 18. U-M President Mark Schlissel and AKU President Firoz Rasul also attended the signing ceremony.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham and Aga Khan University have entered into an agreement to develop collaborative academic, cultural exchange and research programs that will enable faculty and students to explore new ideas in the classroom, laboratory, studio and clinic. The initiative will leverage their shared strengths in research and scholarship to generate knowledge that can help address real world issues.

World Monuments Fund (WMF) honored Prince Amyn Aga Khan, of the Aga Khan Development Network, and Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, historian of the city of Havana, Cuba, at the 31st annual Hadrian Gala held at the Rainbow Room in New York City on October 23.

Prince Amyn Aga Khan is a lifelong supporter of cultural heritage in all its forms. He obtained a bachelor’s from Harvard University and a master’s from Harvard’s GSAS while studying in parallel at the New England Conservatory of Music. In 1964, he joined the United Nations Secretariat in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and later joined the Aga Khan’s Secretariat.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 19— Harvard University agreed last week to aid in planning and developing a teaching hospital under construction in Karachi, Pakistan.
The $300 million, 721-bed hospital, the most advanced in Pakistan, is being constructed by the Aga Khan, the religious leader of about 15 million Ismaili Moslems. Under an agreement signed here Wednesday, the university will help in developing a medical library, a curriculum for training doctors in the neurosciences and courses on the effects of cultural and work environments on the administration of health services.

The Architectural League of New York has announced the recipient of its 2017 President’s Medal: His Highness the Aga Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam (Spiritual Leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Aga Khan Award in Architecture – an annual award established to celebrate building concepts that have successfully addressed the needs of Muslim communities from around the world.
