SPEECH AT THE PRESENTATION CEREMONY OF THE FIRST AGA KHAN AWARD FOR ARCHITECTURE - 1980-10-23 held at the Shalimar Gardens, Lahore

LAHORE - Punjab Daanish Schools and Aga Khan University-Examination Board on Monday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation for inculcatinag creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, inter personal skills and team work. Punjab Daanish Schools and Centres of Excellence Authority Vice Chairperson Sumaira Ahmad and Manager Academics Seema Hasan Khan and AKU-EB Director Dr Shehzad Jeeva, associate directors Dr Naveed Yousaf and Hanif Sharif attended simple but impressive ceremony.

LAHORE: The conservation of the western side of the world’s largest picture wall which is located at Lahore Fort has been completed by Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) in partnership Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), Pakistan Today has learnt.

It is pertinent to mention here that the conservation work was started in January 2018 in which experts from different countries of the world worked.

LAHORE: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) on Tuesday organised another session of ‘Meet the Expert’ during which conservationists and architects briefed participants on conservation methodologies of the picture wall of Lahore Fort that also happens to be the world’s largest picture wall, Pakistan Today has learnt.

WCLA had invited students and faculty members from all universities of Lahore which have architecture, history, fine arts and social sciences departments. Almost 200 participants were present in the session which was held here at the summer palace of Lahore Fort.

On that occasion he announced award of 5 post-graduate scholarships for one year study in Europe or the Middle East. Opening the colloquium His Royal Highness said:

Opening the colloquium, His Royal Highness said:

You all must be familiar with the jewel of Lahore, the Wazir Khan Mosque, but have you ever noticed the beauty of its outer quad, the chowk?

The famous Queen Noor Jahan, wife of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, was suffering from an untreatable disease and all the local herbal doctors (Hakeem) and physicians had failed to cure her. That was the time when one of the courtiers told the emperor about a Hakeem of Chiniot Ilm Ud Ansari, and thus he was called to Lahore to cure the Queen’s disease which was distressing the emperor. So the Hakeem made his entry into the Royal Kingdom of the Mughals. Hakeem Ilm Ud Din Ansari figured out the cause of disease and cured it by making the Queen walk on burning sand.

The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has started the conservation of some parts of the Lahore Fort’s Picture Wall as part of the Picture Wall Prototype (PWP) Project, in partnership with Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

​The Aga Khan University Hospital has opened two new medical centres to provide consulting clinics, vaccination, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy services in Lahore, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

LAHORE, Nov 18: His Highness Karim Aga Khan has been awarded the internationally-acclaimed David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award 2012 in a ceremony held under the aegis of “University for a Night”, sponsored by Hashoo Foundation, Kim Samuel Johnson and Shell.

UNHCR/J.ReddenWhen dignitaries gathered this month to see off more than 500 Afghan refugees, UNHCR and the Pakistan government shared the podium with a relief agency that had been key to their effort to contact the refugees and organise returns from a city where refugees are submerged among 6 million Punjabis.

The mountainous Northern Areas of Pakistan bordering China and Indian administered Kashmir, finally have a chance of emerging from poverty and backwardness, thanks to increasing attention from international donors, particularly a US $123,641 grant from Japan last week.The Northern Areas, home to 1.2 million people spread across 1,123 villages, were unrepresented in Parliament for the last 57 years. For all practical purposes, they are governed directly by Pakistan's federal government.

Community based trophy hunting programmes that allow limited hunting of rare animals have become an important source of sustainable economic development for communities in the Northern Areas, a group of journalists learnt on a visit to the Bar valley organised by the Forum of Environment Journalists, Punjab chapter (FEJP), in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
The touring team were first taken to the Gilgit Information Conservation Centre and witnessed the development done by non-governmental organisations and environment units.

The government led by Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali has undertaken a record privatisation of Rs4 billion in its initial months which is unprecedented as compared to any previous track record , said Privatisation Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.Talking to reporters informally after inaugurating the 8th National Exhibition of Visual Arts, the minister said that Rs4 billion privatisation includes that of Rs 3bn through stock exchange divestment and Rs1 billion through direct sale of ICP Mutual Fund. The minister assured that the pace of privatization would be accelerated in due course.

Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistan People?s Party chairperson, has said that Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan will be mourned not only by his family, friends and the Ismaili community but also by ?the larger world where he was well known and respected?.In her condolence letter to the late prince?s widow, Ms Bhutto wrote: ?So many will mourn the passing of a sensitive man of enormous intelligence, understanding and compassion. I will mourn him for all those reasons. I will mourn him too as a good friend of my family over many decades.?

Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistan People’s Party chairperson, has said that Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan will be mourned not only by his family, friends and the Ismaili community but also by “the larger world where he was well known and respected”.
