It is my pleasure to celebrate here today the special partnership between Germany and the Aga Khan Development Network, or AKDN. Over the past 25 years, we have implemented almost € 600 million of programmes together in Asia and in Africa - spanning clean energy and infrastructure, water supply and sanitation, financial services and tourism, as well as education, health and civil society.

The forum was in Askwith Hall in Longfellow Hall, at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The occasion was the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture, which she was there to give.
At a time when the world is grappling with issues of child-centered education, of women’s rights in Muslim societies, and of the loss of authentic local cultures under a wave of globalization, the princess spoke to all of these.

President lauds Aga Khan’s contribution for uplift of underprivileged communities across world
Posted September 27th, 2018 by librarian-hdISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi said Prince Karim Aga Khan’s vision and untiring efforts in promoting global peace, inter-faith dialogue, cultural diversity and pluralism had contributed towards the development and uplift of economically disadvantaged communities across the world.
He said this in a meeting with President of the Aga Khan Council for Pakistan Hafiz Sherali who called on him to deliver a letter from Prince Karim Aga Khan.

Aga Khan Foundation to train 13,000 youths
Posted September 10th, 2018 by librarian-hdThe large number of young people in the Northeast need opportunities to be self-reliant instead of looking for scarce white collar jobs, the Aga Khan Foundation has said.
To achieve this, the government should work together with the private sector and the civil society, the foundation’s manager for Coast and North Eastern Atrash Ali said.
The organisation intends to train 13,000 youths in Garissa, Mandera and Lamu.
Ali distributed training and business equipment to 13 youth groups on Saturday. He said up to 75 per cent of the population in the region are below 35 years.

Posted September 2nd, 2018 by librarian-hdPresident Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Nurjehan Mawani, the Ambassador of High Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan in Afghanistan, to discuss the future of Aga Khan Development Network development projects in Afghanistan.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the meeting was organized in ARG Presidential Palace on Saturday morning.
The statement further added that two sides discussed the implementation of projects by Aga Khan Development Network in various countries in energy, communications, and agriculture.

AKDN announces € 2.5 million grant towards scientific and technical research for Portuguese-speaking countries and developing na
Posted July 24th, 2018 by librarian-hdLisbon, Portugal, 12 July 2018 – A second tranche of grant funding for research and education projects in the amount of € 2.5 million was announced by representatives of the Ismaili Imamat and Aga Khan Development Network as a week of activities concluded in Portugal celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of His Highness the Aga Khan.
The second tranche is intended to fund research that will improve the quality of life mainly in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa.

"We can say with conviction that Africa's moment has come." With this the Aga Khan brought a 2016 keynote address to a culmination. While he commended the continent's resilience, economic progress and a widening acceptance of diversity, it was this one sentence that summed up his optimism about the continent.

Aga Khan’s foundation gives €100,000 towards post-fire reforestation
Posted November 24th, 2017 by librarian-hdWith news of how the country means to recover the devastation of last summer’s forest fires updating by the day, one of the latest highlights is a donation of €100,000 for reforestation efforts from the Aga Khan’s Ismaili community, based in Lisbon.
The offer was announced yesterday (Thursday), with the money going towards reforesting Leiria’s ‘mata nacional’ - one of the areas worst hit by the fires that are now thought to have killed as many as 50 people in October (see below).
