Award for Aga Khan programmes AKPBS and WASEP - 2010-06-07
Posted June 7th, 2010 by heritageIslamabad: Due to its sustainable initiatives to improve living conditions of more than 200 villages in Pakistan, the Aga Khan Planning and Building Service Pakistan’s (AKPBS-P) Water and Sanitation Extension Programme (WASEP) was recently awarded with the National Energy Globe Award.
The award is conferred in a grand ceremony organised on the United Nation UN World Environment Day in Kigali, Rwanda, as WASEP was able to outshine more than 800 entries from 111 countries. WASEP was also short-listed as one of the top three projects in the prestigious Water Category Award.

During the meeting, E.Karabaev welcomed him on behalf of President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev and thanked the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) for rendering material assistance to quake victims in the republic' south. The parties discussed the results of implemented projects and perspectives of cooperation between AKDN and Kyrgyzstan. It was also raised issues about projects, which reflect tasks that set by the President of Kyrgyzstan in his message to the people of Kyrgyzstan.

Both sides reviewed the situation and stages of the projects being implemented by the Network in Aleppo and their positive impact on boosting social and tourist development in the Syrian second city.

I am especially happy that the Ismaili Imamat has been given the opportunity to participate in a Forum organised by and for all those concerned with the difficulties facing the populations of mountain regions, and to share lessons that have been learnt, to exchange mutual experience and advice, to better identify the problems that exist, and to try, as part of a joint effort, to propose new and more efficient solutions.

Both sides reviewed a set of projects which the AKDN intends to initiate in Syria, particularly rural development, broadening and expanding the program of funding the small-size projects and infrastructure services.
