Coastweek--As part of one of the largest expansions of quality health care services in East Africa, the Aga Khan Development Network and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have signed agreements for a total of US$19.5 million towards the improvement and expansion of the Aga Khan Hospitals in both Mombasa and Kisumu.
The total project cost is $27.8 million (over Kenyan Shilling 2.8 billion).
The balance investment of $8.3 million is a grant from the Aga Khan Development Network.

Tanzania: Govt Praises Aga Khan On Investments 2016-07-20

Deputy minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Susan Kolimba said the network has invested heavily in education, healthcare, culture, infrastructure and tourism.
She said this on Monday evening during the commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the Ascension to the Ismaili Imamat of His Highness the Aga Khan as the 49th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili.

The forum was in Askwith Hall in Longfellow Hall, at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The occasion was the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture, which she was there to give.
At a time when the world is grappling with issues of child-centered education, of women’s rights in Muslim societies, and of the loss of authentic local cultures under a wave of globalization, the princess spoke to all of these.

The Canadian premier met with the President of the Ismaili Council for Canada Malik Talib and the resident representative of the Aga Khan Development Network Dr Mahmoud Eboo. The three discussed areas of collaboration between the government of Canada and the Ismaili Imamat, according to The Ismaili.

UNHCR staff greeted the Aga Khan before he held private talks with Guterres followed by a meeting with senior UNHCR officials on the long-standing partnership between the Aga Khan Development Network and the UN refugee agency.

Maki to Make UK Debut with New Building for Aga Khan Development Network 2015-08-03

As the Architects' Journal reports, the Japanese firm has designed a nine story, 8,780-square-meter educational space for the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) - a group of non-denominational agencies focused on improving the welfare of people in developing areas in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The predominately limestone building pulls cues from its context; its facade is derived from the space within, which in turn responds to the surrounding Kings Cross site.

Historic Agreement Establishes Global Seat of Ismaili Imamat in Portugal 2015-06-03
Posted June 3rd, 2015 by librarian-hdLisbon, June 3rd 2015 -- Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Rui Machete and His Highness the Aga Khan today signed a landmark Agreement between the Republic of Portugal and the Ismaili Imamat for the establishment of a formal Seat of the Ismaili Imamat in Portugal. The Agreement marks the first such accord in the Imamat’s modern history. It will come into effect once it has been approved by Portugal’s Parliament and ratified by the President of the Portuguese Republic.
