HARVARD TO AID IN DEVELOPING PAKISTANI TEACHING HOSPITAL
Posted February 14th, 2018 by librarian-hdCAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 19— Harvard University agreed last week to aid in planning and developing a teaching hospital under construction in Karachi, Pakistan.
The $300 million, 721-bed hospital, the most advanced in Pakistan, is being constructed by the Aga Khan, the religious leader of about 15 million Ismaili Moslems. Under an agreement signed here Wednesday, the university will help in developing a medical library, a curriculum for training doctors in the neurosciences and courses on the effects of cultural and work environments on the administration of health services.

AKU supports 33,000 jobs annually in Sindh: study

Aga Khan University receives USD 144,000 for innovative research
Posted January 12th, 2018 by librarian-hdAga Khan University on Friday received grants amounting to USD144,000 to boost innovative research to assist women living with Metastatic breast cancer.
The grant worth USD 25000 from Seeding Progress and Resources for the Cancer Community (SPARC) Metastatic Breast Cancer Challenge was received by the Head of Medical Oncology Division at Agakhan University, Dr. Asim Shaikh.
The grant was given as a result of a partnership between the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Pfizer Oncology.

In his inaugural address, Prince Karim Aga Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the AKU, acknowledged the many contributions made towards the advancement of healthcare in the country. He, however, stated that the civil society was underserved in education in Pakistan.

Tanzania: Aga Khan Network Earns Govt Praise in Education
Posted September 15th, 2017 by librarian-hdKilwa — The government has lavished praise on the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) for implementing effectively an education initiative under a project dubbed Strengthening Education Systems East Africa (Sesea).
The implementation of the project started in 2012 with a purpose of building capacity to pre and primary school teachers on how best they can prepare teaching aid, monitoring and assess academic performance of their pupils.
The project intends to reach 187,344 teachers in the East African countries out of which Tanzania will have 69,515 female teachers as beneficiaries.

Tanzania: Aga Khan University Set to Build Two More Campuses
Posted July 7th, 2017 by librarian-hdDar es Salaam — The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is preparing to build two university campuses for the Aga Khan University (AKU) in Tanzania.
This was revealed yesterday by the director of the AKDN's Institute for Education Development (East Africa), Prof Joe Lugalla.
He was addressing a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on the Ismaili Jubilee & Carnival, which is scheduled for this Sunday.
According to Prof Lugalla, the first campus will be built in Arusha. It is estimated that construction will take six years.

Hazar Imam revealed his intention to establish the hospital in February, at the convocation ceremony of the Aga Khan University.
“With the cooperation of the government we plan to establish a new Aga Khan University Hospital in Kampala,” he said in his convocation address. “No Ugandan should have to leave the country to seek quality medical care.”

Uganda: Aga Khan University Hospital to Launch in Uganda 2015-12-15
Posted December 15th, 2015 by librarian-hdKampala — Aga Khan University Hospital is poised to expand its footprint in East Africa after acquiring land from government to build aspecialised health facility in Kampala.
The 60-acre piece of land, which is part of the former Nakawa-Naguru Housing Estate, will host a teaching hospital.
The facility will serve as hospital and a health training institution for the Aga Khan University located on Gadaffi Road in Old Kampala, which trains doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.
