The Aga Khan University (AKU) in Kampala, whose construction was launched yesterday, will open doors to its pioneer students in two years.
Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, the university president, said the multi-million dollar education and health complex located in Nakawa Division will be ready by 2025, enabling students to be admitted the same year.

The Aga Khan University (AKU) has launched its 40th Anniversary celebrations today, as it celebrates the graduation of the Class of 2022.

Close to two decades after its launch in Pakistan, AKU began a new chapter in East Africa with precursor programmes in nursing and teacher education. Today, the University in Kenya has grown its offering to postgraduate programmes in medicine, media and communications studies and hosts three research institutes.

The 40-year celebrations will be year-long with various activities including a research symposium, public lectures and student showcases.

In her address to the gathering, Princess Zahra Aga Khan delivered a message from Hazar Imam – Chancellor and Founder of the Aga Khan University – on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Aga Khan University a three-fold celebration: AKU’s 40th anniversary; the inaugural Founder’s Day commemoration; and the success of AKU’s Class of 2022.. Shamiyana structures were set up at AKU’s campus in Karachi — and across similar stages at AKU’s campuses in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, and Kampala.

KARACHI: Sindh Minister of Health and Population Welfare Dr Azra Pechuho has recognised the Aga Khan University for treating 300,000 people and distributing medicines of Rs 143 million in 42 districts of Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

“The way Aga Khan University gathered resources in a short period of time and joined the Government’s efforts to provide relief in the flood-affected areas is commendable,” said Dr Pechuho while addressing an event organised by AKU Flood Response Task Force.
