Gilgit, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Oct, 2021 ) :Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan held a ground-breaking ceremony for two state-of-the-art regional Aga Khan Higher Secondary Schools in Gupis and Yasin, promising continuity of quality education till grade 12 for the students of the region.

The Minister for Education for Gilgit-Baltistan, Raja Muhammad Azam Khan, graced the occasion as chief guest, while the Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Nazir Ahmad, and President Aga Khan Council for Pakistan, Hafiz Sherali, attended as guests of honour.

Around 250 saplings were planted in the village Hussain Abad and Tarr Khowaja through joint collaboration of Shia Ismaili Council and District Forest department that was followed by an event to highlight the importance of a healthy ecosystem and a nature-friendly atmosphere on the eve of Global Ismaili Civic day.

The largest-ever survey of routine immunisation coverage across Pakistan has found that 76.1 per cent of children under the age of 2 years have received the full course of vaccinations recommended by Pakistan’s government.

Of the remaining children, more than 1 in every 6, or 17.7 per cent, have been partially vaccinated while 5.9 per cent of under 2s have never been vaccinated, according to results from The Third-Party Verification Immunization Coverage Survey, TPVICS.

CHITRAL: The residents of Baroghil valley in Chitral region insist that the recent construction of an all-weather road to Baroghil promises the development of the underdeveloped valley in the country’s northernmost region.

According to them, basic facilities are largely unavailable to them as the valley remains inaccessible for seven months of the year due to harsh weather conditions.

The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme recently built the 32km road with four suspension bridges at the cost of Rs102.28 million. It provides all-weather access to the valley.

KARACHI: Efforts to find less-invasive and more affordable cure for two common genetic disorders — beta thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia — have received a boost with Aga Khan University’s research centre recently winning a competitive research grant of Rs159.60 million.

Currently, Pakistan has an estimated 100,000 transfusion-dependent thalassaemia patients with 5,000 babies born with the disease every year.

On the other hand, sickle-cell disease is one of the well-known causes of anaemia in the country.

ISLAMABAD: The World Wide Fund for Nature - Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan), Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) and Serena Hotels on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim to work towards their common objectives of climate change mitigation and climate adaptation, land degradation, food security, biodiversity conservation and enhancing community resilience.

The agreement was signed in view of Pakistan’s needs and to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The European Union has decided to co-finance three projects, for more than €7 million, to alleviate the socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on communities in Pakistan.

The initiative also aims to increase the voice of the youth as well as providing support to Pakistan's civil society.

The announcement followed the signing of three contracts by Androulla Kaminara, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, and representatives of the main implementing partners: Agha Khan Foundation, Norwegian Church Aid, and Deutsche Welthungerhilfe.
