Roche Diagnostics and the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi have signed a contract aimed at enhancing healthcare access in Kenya and East Africa by installing a fully automated diagnostics instrument at the Hospital

The Aga Khan Development Network’s Eastern Africa Regional COVID-19 Response Programme, funded with 9.4 million euros, is set to conclude this month, leaving a significant impact on over 10 million individuals across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Mozambique.

Launched in December 2020, the initiative aimed to address the health, economic, and social vulnerabilities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Eastern Africa. The program, jointly funded by the European Union (EU) and the Aga Khan Foundation, followed a three-pronged approach to improve systemic, gender-sensitive responses.

The Aga Khan University (AKU) has launched its 40th Anniversary celebrations today, as it celebrates the graduation of the Class of 2022.

Close to two decades after its launch in Pakistan, AKU began a new chapter in East Africa with precursor programmes in nursing and teacher education. Today, the University in Kenya has grown its offering to postgraduate programmes in medicine, media and communications studies and hosts three research institutes.

The 40-year celebrations will be year-long with various activities including a research symposium, public lectures and student showcases.

Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has announced a commitment to grow its lending to green projects to a quarter of its loan book by 2030. The Bank has also committed to achieve net zero carbon emissions status across its group operations by the same time.

DTB will also grow 10 million trees by 2030 through its #MuchMoreThanTrees initiative, as part of its efforts to help mitigate climate change.

The Bank announced the commitments during its inaugural economic and sustainability forum held at the Crowne Plaza in Nairobi and themed Embedding Sustainability in Businesses.

A Kenyan man suffering from erectile dysfunction has gone in for a penile implant procedure at a health facility.

The procedure was carried out at leading private hospital in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi to help resolve the man’s situation.

The Aga Khan University Hospital where the procedure took place said this was the first time such an operation had been carried out in East and central Africa.

The procedure was carried out on the 44-year-old man who according to doctors had been suffering from erectile dysfunction for a number of years.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 16 – The Aga Khan hospitals in East Africa have received a Sh290 million grant from Proparco, the private sector financing arm of AFD Group, the French Development Agency to increase access to health care services by boosting oxygen supply and supporting needy patients with quality care.

The grant will benefit the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi and the Aga Khan Hospitals in Mombasa, Kisumu and Dar-es-Salaam including ninety-four outreach and medical centres of the Aga Khan Health Services in Kenya and Tanzania.

Any person who has walked on the streets of Nairobi has definitely come across a three-storey iconic building near the University of Nairobi, painted in grey like old colour, called the Khoja Mosque.

Its actual name is Nairobi Town Jamatkhana, meaning a prayer house or mosque and is located at the junction of Nairobi's Moi Avenue and the start of the famous River Road.
