How Kenyatta's Control of Nation Media Was Thwarted
Posted September 27th, 2019 by librarian-hdKenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, once tried to get one of his relatives to control the Nation Media Group.
In a 2010 book titled The Birth of a Nation: The Story of a Newspaper in Kenya, Gerard Loughran, a former senior editor at the Daily Nation, narrates what transpired after Kenyatta made a proposition for one of his kinsmen to lead the firm.
After the Aga Khan opened Serena Hotel in a ceremony attended by Kenya’s founding father on February 16, 1976, Mzee introduced the businessman to his chosen candidate.

Government at Harvard University (HKS) launched the Transforming Leadership for 21st Century Africa Programme on September 15, 2019 at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi. This marks the second consecutive year GSMC and HKS have collaborated to deliver the leadership programme, which helps executives from Africa, exercise leadership amid uncertainty with skill and effectiveness, while communicating for impact.

Agha Khan University Hospital invests Ksh600 million to fight cancer
Posted October 26th, 2018 by librarian-hdAga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi has announced that it has invested more than KES 600 million to become the first hospital in the region to introduce a state-of-the-art technology that will improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, heart disease and other diseases.
The Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanner and Cyclotron is the first such scanner in East and Central Africa. It enables physicians to study the body in extraordinary detail, allowing them to diagnose diseases early and plan the most effective course of treatment.

Aga Khan donates equipment to TVET
Posted September 27th, 2018 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan Foundation yesterday handed over Sh3.5 million equipment to the Garissa vocational training centre.
The equipment — including sewing machines, fabric, electrical and beauty therapy products — were received on behalf of the institution by area deputy Abdi Dagane.
Hasma Awadh of the Aga Khan Foundation said the equipment were purchased by funds they received from the EU. She said the three-year project will improve the socio-economic opportunities for youth in Northern Kenya. Dagane said youth enrolment to the centre was still low despite the county’s support.

Aga Khan Foundation to train 13,000 youths
Posted September 10th, 2018 by librarian-hdThe large number of young people in the Northeast need opportunities to be self-reliant instead of looking for scarce white collar jobs, the Aga Khan Foundation has said.
To achieve this, the government should work together with the private sector and the civil society, the foundation’s manager for Coast and North Eastern Atrash Ali said.
The organisation intends to train 13,000 youths in Garissa, Mandera and Lamu.
Ali distributed training and business equipment to 13 youth groups on Saturday. He said up to 75 per cent of the population in the region are below 35 years.

"We can say with conviction that Africa's moment has come." With this the Aga Khan brought a 2016 keynote address to a culmination. While he commended the continent's resilience, economic progress and a widening acceptance of diversity, it was this one sentence that summed up his optimism about the continent.

President Uhuru and The Aga Khan announce new project for Nairobi residents 2018-04-14
Posted April 14th, 2018 by librarian-hdPresident Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday met with his Highness the Aga Khan and discussed a project that will be implemented at Nairobi's City Park.
Speaking at State House on Friday, Uhuru stated that the initiative was geared towards enhancing the quality of life of Nairobi residents.
According to a statement released by State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu the project is set to restore Nairobi City Park to its past glory as the "Green Jewel ofNairobi".
Aga Khan is the current Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims.

Aga Khan in Nairobi for Diamond Jubilee

The spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims was received by Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma and leaders from his community as well as the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
He is expected to meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.
The Aga Khan’s arrival is part of celebrations to mark his Diamond Jubilee, 60 years since his accession to his role of spiritual leadership.
The year-long celebration commenced on July 11, last year.

Aga Khan aquires state of the art cancer screening machine

The Agha Khan hospital has acquired a state of the art cancer screening machine, the first of its kind in Kenya.
This comes in the wake of mounting cases of cancer in the country.
The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) CT scanner and Cyclotron has the ability to detect cancer and specifying its stage.
Agha Khan is expected to launch the machine March next year after training of the staff.
619 million shillings was used to acquire it and its expected to save patients the trouble of traveling abroad in search of screening services.
