Ours is a time when knowledge and information are expanding at an accelerating and, perhaps, unsettling pace. There exists, therefore, an unprecedented capacity for improving the human condition. And yet, ills such as abject poverty and ignorance, and the conflicts these breed, continue to afflict the world.

The language of a nation is not only the expression of its own voice but the mode of interpretation with all other human societies. Before it is too late, I, an old man, implore my brothers in Islam here not to finally decide for Urdu as the national language of Pakistan but to choose Arabic.

Mr. President, Brother Muslims:

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.s) told mankind first that the infinite sustainer and container of all existence had justice, mercy and love as well; Secondly, that man through these qualities and through gentleness and kindness, prayer, awe or wonder could get in howsoever infinitesimal proportion - direct communion with the All-embracing power in which he lived and moved and had his being.

First of all you must win the right to prayers, then win your right to equality in production industrial service and in office work…
…Oh my sisters, agitate! Leave no peace to the men till they give you religious freedom by opening mosques for prayers, not side by side with men, but in reserved quarters attached to all the mosques, to that the habit of praying public and self respect and self-confidence becomes general amongst women.

Ladies believe me, if Pakistan does not rise to modern idea of the equal position of women, you will find not only Europe but all the other countries of Asia going ahead of you. I am heart broken when I see how little many of our men realise what it is, and how little the women contribute, compared to what they could contribute to moral and material happiness and prosperity of the country.

LONDON: The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is partnering with Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, to launch the Earthshot Prize, which aims to incentivise environmental change while helping repair the planet over the next 10 years.
According to a press rele­ase, the prize also aims to find new solutions to environmental crises and the improvement of living stan­dards, particularly for communities that are most at risk from climate change.

GILGIT: The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan (AKAH-P) and the government of Gilgit-Baltistan have announced a US dollar 4.2 million project to plant 50 million trees across the region to reduce the climate-induced natural disasters.
The announcement was made at a function here on Friday.

The project will use tree plantation to absorb carbon and stabilise soil and slopes in hazard-prone areas, mitigating climate change and disaster risk, according to a press release issued here on Friday.

It was just eighteen months ago that the Government of Canada announced its decision to partner with the Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in our Global Centre for Pluralism. What we welcomed at that time was a multi-faceted partnership—financial, yes, but also institutional and intellectual.

The Aga Khan III married, on 7 December 1929 (civil), in Aix-les-Bains, France, and 13 December 1929 (religious), in Bombay, India, Andrée Joséphine Carron (1898–1976). A co-owner of a dressmaking shop in Paris, she became known as Princess Andrée Aga Khan. By this marriage, he had one son, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, (1933–2003). The couple were divorced in 1943

The spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, the Aga Khan is the forty-ninth in a hereditary line extending back to the Prophet Muhammad. I don’t believe there many of us in this room who could trace, in any direction, anything like that kind of heritage.

I am strongly in favour of the "people-centred" approach for two reasons. Firstly, the tradition of self-help has strong cultural roots in much of the Third World where the voluntary movement is becoming increasingly vibrant. Secondly, and more importantly, the approach - in my experience - works!

This year Ismaili CIVIC Day was observed on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in Ontario. More than three hundred volunteers gathered to run a collection drive for supplies for local women’s and youth shelters. Over 7,500 items were collected, ranging from toiletries, non-perishable food items, bedding and much more. In a bid to ensure safety given the current global pandemic, volunteers ran a drive-thru drop-off of supplies over two hours across thirteen locations in the region. The items collected were then delivered to local shelters.

Coastweek-- 26 countries, 146 projects, over 200 participants, 5 categories, and 6 students. These are only a few statistics about the recent Golden Climate International Environmental Project Olympiad, held in Nairobi from Tuesday 29th April to Friday 2nd May.

The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa, an education centre that promotes holistic learning and international leadership participated in the fourth annual edition of the Golden Climate Science Competition, held by the Light Academy Schools in Nairobi.
