At 7:30 pm on September 21, 2016 at Koerner Hall in Toronto the inaugural Adrienne Clarkson Prize for Global Citizenship will be awarded at the marquee event of 6 Degrees — the new public initiative of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship.
The prize will be given annually to an individual who has, through thought and dialogue, encouraged approaches and strategies that strive to remove barriers, change attitudes, and reinforce the principles of tolerance and respect.

The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (Akfed) has added another telecoms operator to its portfolio by buying Telia Company’s 60% stake in Tajikistan operator Tcell. Akfed already owned the other 40% and is paying just $39 million for the rest.
Akfed owns Afghanistan’s Roshan mobile operator, which in turn also owns Smart Telecom, with businesses in east Africa.

Those of you who are regular guests at the Hadrian Award Luncheon may have noticed that this seems to have become a regular time for me to be a guest at these meetings. I should assure you I’m not seeking a permanent place on the program. This is the third consecutive Hadrian lunch at which I’ve been privileged to speak about the work of the World Monuments Fund, and indeed it is certainly worthy of all the attention that any of us could give to that work.

A new lease of life is in the offing for the beleaguered Deccan Park that lies close to the Qutub Shahi Tombs and the historic Golconda Fort.
Developed at a cost of Rs 3 crore, the Deccan Park right from the beginning was ridden with one controversy or the other and as a result has not been thrown open to public.

Running over three days, the event will see some 42 countries represented, including America, Spain, Singapore, Rwanda, New Zealand, Italy, Bangladesh, Slovenia and Ukraine.
The theme of this year’s summit, the third, is “Culture: Building Resilient Communities” and has three distinct, interlinking strands; culture and heritage, economics and participation.

The Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the government spends enormous amount of money every year in providing tertiary level treatment to Tanzanians in overseas hospitals.

Tanzania: Minister Unveils Phase II of Aga Khan Hospital in Dar 2016-08-24
Posted August 24th, 2016 by librarian-hdDar es Salaam — The minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, and Princess Zahra Aga Khan yesterday launched the second Phase of the Aga Khan Hospital construction.
The health facility will be built at the cost of Sh167 billion in which the French Development Bank has provided concessionary long term financing of Sh112 billion while Sh55 billion is a grant from the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
The new building will take 170 hospital beds.
