Geneva, Switzerland, 25 April 2019 – The 20 shortlisted projects for the 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture were announced today. The projects will compete for US$ 1 million in prize money.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for a special event on Wednesday, ahead of their royal tour of Pakistan.
William and Kate, both 37, attended a reception hosted by His Highness The Aga Khan at the Aga Khan Centre in King's Cross, London. The couple met with a range of people from Pakistan at the event, including community leaders, those involved in British and Pakistani business, and key figures within the Diaspora community, including musicians, chefs and artists.

I am happy that we have been invited to participate in the International Islamic Conference being held in Amman, from the 4th to the 6th of July, 2005, under the auspices of the Hashemite Kingdom.

Farah Diba and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg attended the Installation of Frederic Mitterrand at The Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of France in Paris, France. Farah Pahlavi and Karim Aga Khan IV were also present at the event. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa was received as guest of honor by Frédéric Mitterrand in the presence of many personalities from the political, cultural, and economic world. The Academy of Fine Arts (Academie des Beaux-Arts) is one of the five academies of the Institute of France (Institut de France).

Attended a dinner at 10 Downing Street, London (Monday). Dinner was hosted by the Prime Minister and Mr. Denis Thatcher in honour of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Mohammad Khan Junejo.

His Highness the Aga Khan attends the International Conference on the Dialogue among Civilisations, Cultures and Peoples at the UNESCO, Paris. The Conference in Paris was attended by more than 300 participants. According to the Quotidien Le Soleil of Senegal the Aga Khan was among the attendees.

Friday. Hazar Imam, Chancellor of the Aga Khan University, launched four major projects aimed at strengthening and expanding nursing education, specialised diagnostic services, advanced research and community health-care. He made a speech at the following opening and foundation ceremonies: Rufayda al-Aslamya Center, The Hadi Building and the Juma building.

Canadian Prime Minister Mr. Brian Mulroney opened Ismaili Jamat Khana and Centre in Burnaby, B.C. in presence of Mowlana Hazar Imam, Begum Salimah and Prince Amyn Mohammad.

"Canada is not content simply to assist immigrants to establish themselves in her society at the lowest common denominator of what they can contribute, but positively encourages them to express whatever is most valuable in the cultures of their origin and be proud of it."

Mowlana Hazar Imam spoke at a banquet held in his honor by the National Council of USA in New York. Hazar Imam said, '. . . and the point I am making is that this is really an international Jamat'.

The years of development and change which lie ahead are certain to throw up many new problems. We should not be afraid of these. You will surely surmount them if you stand by your faith and meet your difficulties in the spirit of humility and tolerance that your religion demands of us. This is specially important for the younger generations who will have to carry the future on their shoulders. Only the faith of your fathers can sustain you and enable you to live in peace here in this world and the next.

The University of Central Asia (UCA) and the University of Cambridge signed a Memorandum of Understanding on February 25th 2020 to promote academic partnership, and collaborate in areas such as joint research, faculty and student exchange, as well as sharing of academic and educational material. The signing ceremony, at Cambridge’s Old Schools Building, was attended by Princess Zahra Aga Khan, Members of UCA’s Board of Trustees, the Rector and Deans of UCA, and senior representatives from Cambridge.

Hazar Imam signed the agreement in Cambridge, Massachussets marking the extension and expansion of the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the M.I.T. and Harvard. The agreement consists of a grant of $900,000 U.S. per annum in the field of Architectural Education for the Islamic World. (click here)

March 4, 1912 - Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah, Aga Khan III made the speech, 'Education for National Regeneration' at the Madrasash-i-Anjuman-i-Islam, Bombay. The speech was also printed in 'The Times of India', Bombay, 5 March 1912. Hazar Imam announced the institution of an international prize for Muslim architecture on the lines of the Nobel Prize, to be adjudicated and awarded in Pakistan. Mowlana Hazar Imam addressed National Council of Culture and Arts at Karachi. In an impassioned speech, Hazar Imam said: 'I fear the day when Islam will be our Faith, yet its outward manifestation in the buildings we work and live in, the works of art we behold and the music we listen to, will be dominated by foreign cultures .' Two years later, Hazar Imam established a Foundation called Aga Khan Awards.

His Highness Prince Karim, the Aga Khan, is many things.

“Virtually a one-man state,” as Vanity Fair once put it, he’s the spiritual leader of the world’s 15 million Shia Ismaili Muslims and a unique embodiment of the potential for East blending with West. He inherited from his Indian-born grandfather a dynasty that spans the Muslim world, but he is a British citizen, born in Switzerland, raised in Kenya, educated at Harvard, and lives in a French chateau.

January 1970 was the start of a significant tour in Pakistan. It was also the launching year of the Aga Khan Programme for Islamic Architecture.
