Q. As spiritual leader of the world's 20 million Ismailis, the Aga Khan is a direct descendant of Mohammed. As a political and a social leader He is a man of enormous wealth and responsibility. The Aga Khan is a friend of the Shah of Iran. Many of His followers live there. I asked Him in Ottawa yesterday what someone in his situation might do when a country such as Iran is thrown into the turmoil and crisis.

About a dozen Murids were waiting for hours in the winter cold weather to have a glimpse of their Imam outside the airport gate, they were there to welcome their Imam with a warm heart and happiness in their eyes!

Posted November 10th, 2019 by librarian-hdOn Thursday November 7, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met in Pars with His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (Spiritual Leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
In the course of the talks, they discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Aga Khan Development Network, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Tajik leader reportedly expressed satisfaction with the level and content of real cooperation between Tajikistan and AKDN.

TAJIK-AFGHAN BRIDGE GIVES KABUL NEW TRADE ROUTE - 2002-11-03
Posted July 10th, 2007 by heritageDUSHANBE, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The Central Asian state of Tajikistan opened a bridge on Sunday that provides a new route for vehicles carrying humanitarian aid and goods in and out of war-ravaged Afghanistan. The bridge, opened by Tajik President Imomali Rakhmonov and Prince Aga Khan IV, leader of Shi'ite Ismaili Muslims, is the first vehicle bridge spanning the Pyandzh river between the countries. Vehicles can now be driven from the Afghan capital Kabul through north-eastern Afghanistan to Khorog in Tajikistan, then on to Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

In the course of the meeting, an Agreement on Economic Development between the Kyrgyz Republic and Aga Khan Fund is signed by Finance Minister of Kyrgyzstan Bolot Abildaev and Director of the Aga Khan Fund Yen Chein. In words of A. Akaev, this agreement is a fundamental for further cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Aga Khan Fund.

Prince Sadruddin served the United Nations with distinction, most notably as the youngest and longest-serving UN High Commissioner for Refugees (1965-1977), and later as Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Afghanistan, Mr. Annan told the memorial service.
