Posted November 2nd, 2014 by librarian-hdBirth anniversary of Sir Sultan Mohammed Shah Aga Khan III, the 48th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims is being observed on Sunday (today). Sir Aga Khan III was born in Karachi in 1877 and dedicated his entire life to the cause of Islam. He will always be remembered as one of the most distinguished and well-reputed leaders and diplomats during Pakistan's freedom movement.

His Highness Aga Khan in a condolence letter wrote, "It was with immense sadness that I learnt that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had passed away in the most tragic circumstances. To you and your family, I express my deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

The Prime Minister said this during the meeting with Prince Karim Agha Khan, who called on him here at the PM House.

Talking to Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said the government would continue to work with the Aga Khan Foundation for poverty alleviation and other social welfare and economic activities.

In addition to the Convocation ceremony and the annual Awards Night ceremony, special events are being organized that include an alumni reunion. To mark these milestones AKU Chancellor is expected to preside at the 2013 Convocation in Karachi.

November 2 marks the birth anniversary of Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan III (1877 to 1957) — grandfather of the present spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV.
Sir Aga Khan III, the 48th Imam of Ismaili Muslims, whose birth anniversary is being commemorated today (Friday), was a staunch advocate of education, particularly for women. His contributions in the sectors of political rehabilitation, health, education and social development of Muslims around the world are unprecedented.
