This year the Aga Khan University celebrates another milestone, the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of AKU in East Africa.

To commemorate this occasion, the Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan, has graciously consented to preside at the 2015 Convocation ceremonies as follows:

• Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tuesday, 24th February

2014, October 4: Longchamps, Paris, France - H.H. The Aga Khan attended the Prix de Royallieu (Groupe II) and the Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein at the Hippodrome de Longchamp today Saturday. He was accompanied by Princess Zahra and her daughter Princess Sarah as well as Princess Salwa. Prince Amyn Mohammed also attended the race on Sunday October 5th. H.H. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) have channeled roughly around $700 million of assistance to Afghanistan since the foundation begun it’s engagement in Afghanistan in 1995.

More than 2.5 million people have benefited from the assistance which mainly focuses on world development health care, education, financial services, mobile telephony and other sectors.

In music and art, in drama and sports, and in so many other areas of endeavour.

Princess Zahra visited India and Bangladesh in June to review progress in the redevelopment of Prince Aly Khan Hospital and the surrounding Aga Hall estate, and to take part in celebrating the silver jubilee of the Aga Khan School in Dhaka.

This week, the Aga Khan will be in Ottawa to address a joint session of Parliament, a signal honour reserved for a handful of extraordinary people who have a special relationship with Canada.

It is not hard to understand why this country is special to the Aga Khan, who for more than 50 years has been the spiritual leader of the world’s 15 million Ismaili Muslims. Shocked in 1972 when Uganda suddenly expelled anyone of Asian descent, including thousands of Ismailis, he turned to Pierre Elliott Trudeau in his search for a haven.

2013, December 9: Karachi, Pakistan - This year’s AKU Convocation in Karachi celebrates the 30th graduating class of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the 25th graduating class of the Medical College, and the 20th anniversary of the start of the Institute for Educational Development. In addition to the Convocation ceremony and the annual Awards Night ceremony, special events are being organized that include an alumni reunion. To mark these milestones AKU Chancellor is expected to preside at the 2013 Convocation in Karachi.
