Eji Navroz’na deen sohamanna, Shah Ali Qaim shikar ramava’ne van gaya,
sevak’na m’n thaya uda’si, prann Ali charann’e rahiya (1)
“Navroz is a magnificent day (when) the Everlasting Lord Ali proceeded to woods on hunting spree. (Knowing it), the heart of the servant deemed forlorn, and (his) soul stuck at the footprint of Lord Ali’s feet.”

The United Nations officially recognized the “International Day of Navroz” with the adoption of UN
Resolution 64/253 on 18th Feb., 2010 and retrieved on 26th Feb., 2020.

Navroz is a Persian word, meaning new day of the year. The Arabs pronounced it as Niruz or Nairuz.
The Sogdians called it Nau-Sard (new-year), and also is called Nishat Afroz Jashan in Iran. It is a
spring festival, beginning at the first day of the Persian solar year, corresponding to the vernal

In these troubled times, it is my prayer that Navroz will herald a new beginning, with greater resilience, strength and unity in my Jamat to overcome all forms of difficulty. While the Jamatkhanas will continue to be re-opened as the situation improves, I wish my Jamat to keep in mind the importance I attach to our historic tradition of personal, private prayer.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my best wishes to all members of Canada’s Ismaili Muslim community as they celebrate Navroz in the days ahead.

“Canada has benefited greatly from members of the Ismaili community who have made, and continue to make, great contributions to Canada’s heritage, culture and society.
