New Delhi, India, 8 April, 2015 –His Excellency Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, today awarded His Highness the Aga Khan the Padma Vibhushan, one of the country’s highest civilian decorations, for his contributions to social development in India.

The award, which was bestowed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi as part of the commemoration of India’s 66th Republic Day, was also awarded to actor Amitabh Bhachchan, philanthropist Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and renowned nuclear scientist, Malur Ramasamy Srinivasan, amongst others.

Aga Khan, the chairman of Aga Khan Development network, arrived here today on a 12-day India visit during which he will meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice President Hamid Ansari.

Khan would preside over an inauguration ceremony to mark the completion of the restoration of Humayun's Tomb Heritage site tomorrow.

The restoration work at the heritage site has been carried out by the Aga Khan Trust.

Gulf News - The European Commission has approved a grant of Rs1.1 billion (Euro 25.5 million) to the Aga Khan Foundation in India to support community based rural development. The grant will contribute towards a long-term programme to enhance and protect livelihoods of disadvantaged rural populations in resource-poor areas of central-west India, where nearly 100 million people depend on a rapidly degrading natural resource base for their livelihoods.

AKFED INVESTS $5.5 MILLION INTO DCB</I> - 2001-02-27

Mumbai: The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (Akfed) has infused $5.5 million into the Development Credit Bank Ltd (DCB) thereby increasing its stake to 37.5 per cent from 13.55 per cent.
