Mughal-era Arab ki Sarai gateway restored to its old glory in Delhi 2018-05-28
Posted May 28th, 2018 by librarian-hdAccording to Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) listing of ancient structures in Delhi, Arab Sarai was built in 1560 by Hamida Banu Begum, who was chief consort of Mughal emperor Humayan, to accommodate 300 Arabs she had brought back from Mecca.
The lofty eastern gateway of a walled enclosure built in the 17th century — which was originally a market built during Jahangir’s reign along side Arab ki Sarai, Nizamuddin East — has been restored to its old glory.
The restorer, Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), began restoration work in January 2017.

Qutb Shahi tombs back to days of yore
Posted April 18th, 2018 by librarian-hdHyderabad: The Aga Khan Trust for Culture in collaboration with the State government and Tata Trust has completed conservation works on 25 monuments and landscape restoration over a 20 acres zone at Qutb Shahi Heritage Park.
The restoration initiative had master-craftsmen clocking 1,50,000 man-days of work to restore structural stability and grandeur of the monuments, a press release from Aga Khan Trust said.

In a conversation with Zee News, on the sidelines of the Zee Literature Festival, Matt Reed, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aga Khan Foundation (UK) and of AKDN, said his organisation hopes to create pathways of adaptability and development through education.

The Aga Khan was in the city on Thursday as part of a 10-day visit to India to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of his Imamat.
The leader also told his followers that India is a country of opportunities and it is the duty of every citizen to live with optimism, avail the opportunities and lead an ethical life here.

Heritage experts from around the world gather in Delhi

International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is a prestigious global non-government organisation which is dedicated to promoting the application of theory, methodology, and scientific techniques to the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage world over.

This is because of the roof rainwater harvesting systems installed in the villages by the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP). 15 monuments back to glory, courtesy Aga Khan Trust

Along with this, a nursery spread in a 90-acre area, which houses these monuments, has also been transformed into a magnificent heritage city park.
The heritage park offers a unique blend of nature, culture and ecology.
Thanks to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), under which the monument restoration and city park development, work has been done in line with the those created by it in Kabul, Cairo, Mali and Zanzibar.

A statement from the Aga Khan’s office said, “Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the mausoleum of Mughal Emperor Humayun. On Wednesday, he will inaugurate Sundar Nursery, a sixteenth-century heritage garden adjacent to Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi. The restoration of Humayun’s Tomb, including its gardens, is the largest cultural project undertaken by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) till date.

Delhi High Courtt asks Aga Khan Foundation to beautify Amir Khusro Park
Posted January 17th, 2018 by librarian-hdNew Delhi, Jan 17 The Delhi High Court today asked Aga Khan Foundation to develop and carry out landscaping at the historic Amir Khusro Park in south Delhi, from where the authorities have recently removed illegal encroachers.
The court also turned down the submission of the Delhi Waqf Board counsel opposing the idea of allowing the foundation to beautify the park, claiming that the land belonged to the board which can take care of its property.

U.S. funds excavation of 16th century India tombs 2015-08-08
Posted August 10th, 2015 by librarian-hdHyderabad, India -- The old Qutb Shahi Tombs in India's southern Hyderabad city are getting a new life as they are being restored under a project sponsored by the United States.
The 400-year-old tombs have got grant of over USD100, 000 for the excavation work.
The United States, in collaboration with Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) - world's leading conservation body, are undertaking restoration and conservation project of the royal necropolis, said deputy chief of mission, U.S. embassy, Michael Pelletier.
