CAIRO – 23 January 2019: Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani convened with the director of the Aga Khan Cultural Services Foundation in the Ministry of Antiquities' headquarters on Jan. 22 to discuss means of cooperation in the development of Cairo’s historical districts.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Antiquities for Technical Affairs Mustafa Amin, and Sherif Arian, CEO of Agha Khan Cultural Services Company - Egypt.

Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities will sign on Monday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) in order to broaden institutional engagement through cultural joint ventures and exchange programmes and activities in the field of museums and archaeology.

Secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Amin said that the MoU aims to develop joint ventures in the fields of conservation, museum programmes, archaeological research and exhibitions.

CAIRO: The 14th century mosque of the Amir Aqsunqur, better known as the Blue Mosque, has been opened to the public Saturday after the completion of a six-year renovation project.

The mosque had been closed since 1992 due to damage it had suffered from an earthquake in the same year.

As part of the Al-Darb al-Ahmar Urban Regeneration Program, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) has commenced the renovation work in 2009.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab met on Saturday 2/5/2015 with head of the Aga Khan Foundation Prince Karim Aga Khan, Cabinet Spokesman Hossam El Qawish said.

During the meeting, Mahlab hailed efforts and projects implemented by the Aga Khan Foundation in Egypt. He pointed out to the possibility to sign a cooperation protocol between the government and the foundation that aims to enable the foundation to carry out maintenance works in mosques, added the spokesman.
