He didn't attract as much attention as the Dalai Lama. He rarely does. But by the time he had slipped in and out of Ottawa on his private jet, the Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the world's 15 million Imami Ismaili Muslims, had given the city, and the country, a major gift.
The Geneva-born imam, who is now based just outside Paris, has announced the creation of the Global Centre for Pluralism, which will be based in Ottawa.

Kyrgyzstan's President Askar Akayev and the Imam of Ismailites, Prince Aga Khan IV signed on Tuesday in Bishkek an agreement envisaging the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian and economic areas.Akayev told reporters the agreement will help step up Kyrgyzstan's cooperation with the organisation of Aga Khan IV in the area of economy, health services, education, culture, the social area, as well as in the development of Kyrgyzstan's rural districts.

Prince Karim Aga Khan arrived in Islamabad Tuesday evening. He would meet President Musharraf and Prime minister Jamali, before leaving on a one day visit of Chitral on Thursday. At Chitral the Aga Khan is scheduled to address his followers at Garam Chashma and Booni, besides attending a luncheon arranged by the district administration at the Scouts Officers Mess. Though the Aga Khan is scheduled to return to Islamabad the same day but incase of bad weather, he would be staying at the Hindukush Heights Hotel, as learnt here.

Billionaire racehorse owner the Aga Khan has been presented with a prestigious award for philanthropy.
He was one of six people handed the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy during a ceremony at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Kwik-Fit founder Sir Tom Farmer also received the accolade, regarded as the philanthropy world's equivalent of the Nobel Prize. Also honoured in the awards was Agnes Gund, chair of the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Cadbury chocolate family and the Hewlett and Packard families.

Work has begun to rehabilitate and preserve one of Afghanistan's most historical sites to its original splendour. OTTAWA -- Parliamentarians have voted to grant the Aga Khan honorary Canadian citizenship in what the prime minister describes as a recognition of his leadership in promoting "development, pluralism and tolerance around the world."

Honorary Canadian citizenship is bestowed by the Governor General and requires the unanimous approval of all voting MPs.

Born in Geneva, Shah Karim al-Hussayni is the fifth person to be named an honorary Canadian citizen.

Madrid is currently hosting the exhibition "The Islamic Worlds in the Aga Khan Museum Collection" which shows some of the greatest treasures of Islamic art, from ancient al-Andalus to India.

The exhibition, available until September 6, 2009, will travel several other cities such as Barcelona, Onculture.eu said.

The art, the history, the traditions and the geographies of the Islamic world from the Far East to the Iberian Peninsula are the subjects of the exhibition The Worlds of Islam in the Aga Khan Museum Collection.

Christine Albanel a remis, le 28 mai, les distinctions de « Grand Mécène » et de « Grand Donateur » du ministère de la Culture à Son Altesse l'Aga Khan IV. L'Aga Khan est le 49e imam héréditaire des musulmans chiites ismaéliens, chef spirituel d'une communauté de 15 millions de personnes réparties dans vingt-cinq pays sur les cinq continents.

Un mécénat exceptionnel en faveur du domaine de Chantilly. L'Aga Khan est à l'origine de la « Fondation pour la sauvegarde et le développement du domaine de Chantilly », créée en 2005 et reconnue d'utilité publique.
