The Aga Khan is to donate €40m (£27.4m) of his fortune to help restore France's largest privately owned estate, which includes a park, a Renaissance chateau, a racecourse and the biggest classical art collection in the country outside the Louvre.
The billionaire businessman and racehorse owner, who is a British citizen, will provide more than half of a €70m fund set up with the French state, the Institut de France - which owns the magnificent but badly decayed Chantilly estate - and local authorities.

Dalakhani maintained his unbeaten record in most impressive style as he galloped away with the Prix du Jockey-Club at Chantilly.
The handsome grey colt was always seemingly coasting in the French Derby and pulled clear of his rivals in the final two furlongs, with jockey Christophe Soumillon barely having to shake his reins to get the desired result.
Even Super Celebre, the only real challenger to emerge from out of the pack in the home straight in pursuit of the winner, was flattered to get within two lengths at the line.
Coroner finished a further three lengths away in third place.

Le château menaçait ruine, le parc et ses canaux allaient à vau-l'eau, le domaine de 7 800 hectares faisait naufrage.

The Aga Khan's brilliant three-year-old colt, Dalakhani, was named the Cartier Horse of The Year at the annual end-of-season Cartier Awards dinner held in London last night. The horse's list of honours already included the French Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe before he landed the most prestigious racing award in Europe.
His trophies, for Horse of The Year and Three-Year-Old Colt, were picked up by his trainer, Alain de Royer-Dupre and Princess Zahra Aga Khan, who is taking an increasingly-prominent role in her father's breeding empire.
