SHERGAR’S trainer Michael Stoute has told how the famous steed was “the kindest horse” he worked with.

The Irish-bred thoroughbred was stolen from Ballymany Stud in Co Kildare in 1983 for a ransom of £2million, which was never paid.

The winner of the Epsom and Irish Derbys in 1981 — who was owned by the Aga Khan — is believed to have been shot by his IRA kidnappers after injuring his leg, though the organisation has never officially accepted responsibility.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf said on Friday it was not time for crisis management but conflict resolution for a lasting peace in South Asia.'The time for conflict management is over because another conflict is unthinkable. It is time for conflict resolution,' he told a distinguished gathering here on Friday.
He was speaking as guest of honour at 50th annual dinner hosted in his honour by the Pakistan Society at the Great Hall of Lincoln Inn here on Thursday.

Pakistan is one of the seven finalists, short-listed from around the globe for the prestigious Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy 2004, known in the world as ?Green Oscars' which are given for protecting the environment.The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy carries a prize of over ?140,000 and was created by a UK- based Trust in 2001 to promote inspirational renewable energy projects for providing social and economic benefits to local communities and contribute towards protecting the environment by reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the Trust sources told APP here Thursday.

The Aga Khan at the weekend spoke about freedom of interpretation as a 'generosity which the Holy Koran confers upon all believers'.
He also spoke of what was needed to assure 'the growth of future generations of our intelligentsia, so that we strengthen our own capacity to determine our destiny'.

The Aga Khan, Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, told distinguished audiences of students, international scholars, diplomats and civic dignitaries that 'freedom of interpretation is a generosity which the Holy Quran confers upon all believers'.

While the outside may be simple, the rooms inside are crammed with exotic bibelots, orchids, oriental rugs and textiles. But then Prince Sadruddin is the younger son of Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah, Aga Khan III - the Imam, or leader of the Ismaili Shia Muslims. Their family's bloodline can be traced back to the Prophet.

Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, who died on Monday at the age of 70, was the uncle of Karim Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili Shia Muslims.

Born in Paris in 1933, he was the second son of the late Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan, the 48th hereditary Imam and the late Princess Andree Aga Khan. The family traces its bloodline to the Prophet.

Educated in Lausanne and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University, Prince Sadruddin chose a career in politics and rose almost to the top of the United Nations. He devoted much of his life to global environmental causes.

"Very few modern African leaders fail to recognise the advantages of continued association with the Commonwealth or in the case of the former French African territories with the French Community. The Commonwealth may well become one of the principal means of fulfilling the very justifiable ambition of nearly all African leaders to remain outside the cold war."
