Amid variable interest rates, the Habib Bank Limited reported a net profit of Rs11 billion or Rs7.53 per share for the quarter ending June 2020, which is 13.8 times of Rs750 million or Rs0.44 per share it earned in the same quarter of the previous year, the company’s financial results revealed Friday.

The largest bank of the country saw its net interest income (NII) increase by 44% to Rs35 billion between April and June 2020, compared to Rs24 billion for the same quarter of the previous year.

The Aga Khan University has launched a new mobile application, ‘CoronaCheck’, enabling people to safely evaluate coronavirus symptoms with an in-home screening tool of the application.

According to an official statement, the app uses an interactive chatbot, driven by artificial intelligence, which allows users to understand their symptoms and recognise whether they may have contracted COVID-19 or not. With the app providing help promptly, it also aims to identify potential coronavirus carriers and limit their risk of transmission.

This is a singularly important occasion in the history of the Aga Khan University and I would like to share with you right at the beginning of these few comments, a very deep sense of happiness and elation at the way in which the School of Nursing at the Aga Khan University has progressed.

A large number of people participated in various programmes and rallies held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA).

The Jaffria Allience Pakistan organised a majlis at the Nishtar Park. The programme was presided over by Syed Razi Jaffer Naqvi. Provincial local government and information minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh Assembly opposition leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi and Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar were among the guests. The programme was moderated by Haider Abbas.

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and the Patients Behbud Society for the AKUH (PBS) have entered into a partnership with a pharmaceutical company to provide cancer patients with limited financial means access to targeted therapy treatment.

The partnership was announced during an official signing ceremony held at the university hospital premises in Karachi. Under this partnership, Eli Lilly Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. will support 60 per cent of the cost of Lilly’s medicine for gastric, lung & colorectal cancer of all eligible patients from the AKUH.

The Aga Khan University’s Centre for Innovation in Medical Education, CIME, has become South Asia’s first simulation-based educational institution to be accredited by the US-based Society for Simulation in Healthcare, SSIH.

The university’s CIME was judged to meet the highest standards in simulation-based education by the SSIH, which has accredited over 170 centres in 19 countries around the world. The accreditation means that CIME will join a global community of practice bringing the latest advances in the field to Pakistan.

Pakistan is set to launch Rs500 billion program to tackle the consequences of the country’s high burden of stunting and childhood nutrition.

“We develop the largest public sector project in Pakistan’s history focused on human nutrition,” Special Advisor to the PM on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza said.

Dr. Zafar Mirza addressed an event in Islamabad regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiative.
