2008, January 24: Muslim university to be established by Aga Khan - KARACHI, Pakistan (APP): A Muslim university would be established by the Aga Khan and the Ismaili community with a total investment of about $ 500 million, the president of the Aga Khan Ismaili Council, Iqbal Waljee, said in Karachi on Thursday. He said 1,000 acres of land has been acquired for the purpose on Super Highway in Karachi. The Aga Khan will lay the foundation stone, he said adding that acadamic activity will start from 2011. Convocation Address at Sind University-Jamshoro
February 6, 1970

You have paid My family a great honour by inviting Me here today to receive an Honourary Doctorate of Laws from this famous centre of learning. I am most grateful to you all, and as a Muslim, it makes Me especially happy that this ceremony should be taking place at a university whose development has been so intimately linked with the historic province of Sind.

Your Excellency President Zia-ul-Haq, Your Excellency the Governor of Sind, Honourable Ministers, Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen

Shortly after assuming the reins of Imamat His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan started on a whirlwind tour of Ismailis. Before his auspicious arrival at Karachi, the birth place of his grandfather, in August 1957, Imam-e-Zamam visited Ismaili centres at London and Paris. These visits were marked by memorable scenes of devotion to the spiritual father.

Speaking at the first Convocation of the Aga Khan University on 20th March 1989, President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, referred to the Aga Khan University Medical Centre as a most impressive story of growth and expansion.'

Your Excellency The President; Your excellency the Governor of Sind; Honourable Chief Minister of Sind; Honourable Ministers; Your Excellencies; Distinguished Guests.

Mr President, your unfaltering encouragement has enabled us to bring the Aga Khan University into being. To give the first private University in Pakistan your support was a bold initiative and one to which I wish to offer the fullest recognition.

On Wednesday 18th February 1981, His Highness Prince Karim Agakhan was interviewed on television by Mr. Javed Jabber, a well known personality in television and advertising. Some important questions were spotlighted to seek Hazar Imam's assessment on them and we reproduce hereunder the interview ad-verbatim for our readers-EDITOR:

PARIS Dec 16: The Aga Khan's eldest daughter, Princess Zahra Aga Khan, 26, is to marry Mark Boyden, a 35 year old British Management Consultant, his office confirmed on Monday.
The Happy couple will tie the knot early next summer. Princess Zahra, born in Geneva, studied in Switzerland before taking a diploma in Third World studies at Harvard. She currently works as a secreatary for her father.

Boyden, who has an MBA from Oxford, specialises in business ethics, and = also manages the family estate. The Aga Khan has two other children, Prince Rahim and Prince Hussain. - --AFP

I have been most moved by the wonderful welcome I have received in Karachi. Everyone has been so kind, and for me this day will always remain a brilliant memory.

I thank you for your kindness in inviting me to this function tonight and giving me an opportunity to meet the representatives of an important section of the business and industrial community of Karachi.

You have referred to the advice I gave on another occasion to the members of my own community to assist in the building of this country.

Members of the Board, Ladies and gentlemen:

My wife and I ought to visit the school a great deal more often because we receive such lovely presents. That I would be very encouraged to come back. I think I should say that this visit was provoked by me because the visits to the schools hadn't been planed originally. And I have been asked to come and see what progress has been made in our educational institutions and particularly the new ones that have been developed since 1960 here in Karachi and in other parts of Pakistan.

In November 1990, Mawlana Hazar Imam visited Pakistan for the Third Annual Convocation of the Aga Khan University (AKU) where eighty-eight doctors and ninety-three registered nurses received their degrees and diplomas.
