Kabul, Afghanistan, 8 November 2005: The Kabul Serena Hotel was officially inaugurated today by His Excellency President Karzai and His Highness the Aga Khan. The opening of the restored and expanded Kabul Serena Hotel, the former Kabul Hotel, is a milestone in Afghanistan's post-conflict redevelopment.

4 October 2005: At a ceremony held in the Debating Chamber of Scotland's Parliament at Holyrood, Edinburgh, His Highness the Aga Khan was awarded the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy 2005. In receiving the Medal, the Aga Khan noted the importance in the Muslim faith of sharing resources and caring for the poor. He accepted the Award on behalf of the thousands of dedicated volunteers, from around the world, who contributed to the work of the AKDN.

Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad, 22 September 2006: Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and His Highness the Aga Khan lay the foundation stone of the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad. The Academy will be part of an integrated network of schools located in Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East offering girls and boys an international standard of education from pre-primary to upper secondary levels with a rigorous academic and leadership experience.

Dhaka, Bangladesh - 20 May 2008: On a state visit to Bangladesh, His Highness the Aga Khan laid a foundation stone for Bangladesh’s first Aga Khan Academy. The Academy in Dhaka will eventually be part of a network of 18 centres of educational excellence in a total of 14 countries across Africa, Central and South Asia and the Middle East. The schools will use the International Baccalaureate curriculum and admit students on the basis of their academic potential rather than their ability to pay
