(Somalis with beaded head-dresses, Arabs and Swahili Shaikhs in their long flowing gowns, Africans wearing red fez, Ismaili Muslims in golden turbans, were part of the large gathering of all races which on 17-9-1959 saw His Royal Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan open the new mosque at Wandegeya on the outskirts of Kampala, (Uganda in East Africa)

Kampala, Uganda, November 10, 2006: President Yoweri Museveni and His Highness the Aga Khan inaugurated the new Kampala Serena Hotel on 10 November 2006, which is owned and operated by Tourism Promotion Services (TPS), an arm of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED). One of 17 Serena properties in Africa -- others are in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar and Mozambique -- the Kampala Serena will have a significant economic, social and cultural impact in Uganda.
