Posted May 27th, 2015 by librarian-hdOttawa, Ontario26 May 2015 Introduction Prime Minister Stephen Harper today held a productive meeting with His Highness the Aga Khan, who was visiting Ottawa in his capacity as Imam (spiritual leader) of the Ismaili community. During the meeting, Prime Minister Harper once again expressed his deepest condolences to the Aga Khan for the cowardly terrorist attack that took place earlier this month in Pakistan targeting Ismaili Muslims. The two leaders discussed the threat posed by violent extremists and their persecution and murder of religious and ethnic minorities.

Ottawa Visit of His Highness The Aga Khan in May 2015

He is expected to meet the Prime Minister Harper the same evening and work next day on other AKDN related subjects before returning to Toronto for his introduction of a talk by The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, P.C. Chief Justice of Canada at the Pluralism event.

The Aga Khan: the singular appeal of a pluralist
Posted February 24th, 2014 by librarian-hdThis week, the Aga Khan will be in Ottawa to address a joint session of Parliament, a signal honour reserved for a handful of extraordinary people who have a special relationship with Canada.
It is not hard to understand why this country is special to the Aga Khan, who for more than 50 years has been the spiritual leader of the world’s 15 million Ismaili Muslims. Shocked in 1972 when Uganda suddenly expelled anyone of Asian descent, including thousands of Ismailis, he turned to Pierre Elliott Trudeau in his search for a haven.

Former Getty Director Michael Brand Heads to Aga Khan Museum - 2010-08-23

Paul Getty Museum director who stepped down at the Los Angeles institution earlier this year, has been appointed to a consultancy post at the Aga Khan Development Network, a global Islamic charitable foundation that is currently building an Aga Khan Museum in Toronto. According to sources with knowledge of the hire, the position places Brand — an expert in Asian art — in line to assume the directorship of the Islamic art and culture museum when it opens in a Fumihiko Maki-designed building in 2013.
