Christine Albanel a remis, le 28 mai, les distinctions de « Grand Mécène » et de « Grand Donateur » du ministère de la Culture à Son Altesse l'Aga Khan IV. L'Aga Khan est le 49e imam héréditaire des musulmans chiites ismaéliens, chef spirituel d'une communauté de 15 millions de personnes réparties dans vingt-cinq pays sur les cinq continents.

Un mécénat exceptionnel en faveur du domaine de Chantilly. L'Aga Khan est à l'origine de la « Fondation pour la sauvegarde et le développement du domaine de Chantilly », créée en 2005 et reconnue d'utilité publique.

His Highness the Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, on Friday received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the University of Cambridge’s Pembroke College.

The Aga Khan becomes the first Muslim to receive the distinction in the university’s 800-year history.

OTTAWA (AFP) — Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Tuesday proposed extending honorary Canadian citizenship to the Aga Khan, imam of the world's Shia Ismaili Muslims.

Harper said his government would seek "the consent of the House (of Commons) to extend honorary citizenship to His Highness," and urged all parliamentarians to support the motion.

The Aga Khan, Prince Karim Al Husseini, 72, is the spiritual head of the world's 15 million Ismaili Muslims.

He is the forth such person to hold the post since the 19th century.

DUSHANBE, June 1, 2009, Asia-Plus — Prince Rahim Aga Khan, first son of His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, is arriving in Tajikistan tomorrow on a three-day working visit, the MFA information department reported.

During his stay in Tajikistan, Prince Rahim will review programs of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tajikistan. Prince Rahim is also expected to hold talks with a number of Tajik state officials, the MFA information department said.

EDMONTON — The Aga Khan signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday during a visit to Edmonton that will strengthen ties with the University of Alberta.

The spiritual leader of the Shia Ismali Muslims was in town to deliver the convocation, as well as receive an honorary doctor of laws.

Tuesday's memorandum of understanding builds on a collaboraton between the U of A and the Aga Khan University first signed almost exactly three years ago.

The Aga Khan University is working on a curriculum that focuses on the needs of people who share the vast Indian Ocean.

Dr Rafique Keshavjee, East Africa head of academic planning, said the university will do this by harnessing ideas from an ongoing five-day conference in Nairobi.

The conference is dubbed “The Worlds of the Indian Ocean — connecting the past to the future.”

The conference is the first in a series that aims at engaging people of the Indian Ocean to study and discuss issues affecting them.
