Billionaire racehorse owner the Aga Khan holds his trophy after being presented with a prestigious award for philanthropy, at the Scottish parliament, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Tuesday Oct. 4, 2005. The Aga Khan recieved the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy, an accolade widely regarded as the philanthropy world's equivalent of the Nobel Prize. The ceremony was the first time the event, inaugurated in 2001 and held every two years, had taken place outside the United States.

More than a thousand people attended a fund-raising event on Saturday night at which hundreds of thousands of rupees were raised for poor patients.
Anwar Maqsood and Tina Sani performed at the event which was organized by the Resource Development Committee of the Aga Khan University.

The chairman of the committee, Dr Gaffar Billoo, on the occasion said it had raised Rs14 million since its inception two years ago. 'Out of this amount Rs7 million was raised in 2002 alone,' he said.

La muestra, que inauguran hoy el Rey Juan Carlos y el Príncipe Aga Khan en las salas de exposiciones de CaixaFumun Madrid, pretende además de acercar al público objetos artísticos de gran belleza, la mayoría de ellos nunca exhibidos en España, subsanar el gran desconocimiento que existe con respecto al islám.

OTTAWA -- Parliamentarians have voted to grant the Aga Khan honorary Canadian citizenship in what the prime minister describes as a recognition of his leadership in promoting "development, pluralism and tolerance around the world."

Honorary Canadian citizenship is bestowed by the Governor General and requires the unanimous approval of all voting MPs.

Born in Geneva, Shah Karim al-Hussayni is the fifth person to be named an honorary Canadian citizen.

Statement by THE Prime Minister OF CANADA

Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today on the House of Commons passing a motion to grant Honorary Canadian Citizenship to His Highness the Aga Khan:

“Today, on the advice of our Government, the House of Commons voted to bestow Honorary Canadian Citizenship upon His Highness the Aga Khan.

Madrid is currently hosting the exhibition "The Islamic Worlds in the Aga Khan Museum Collection" which shows some of the greatest treasures of Islamic art, from ancient al-Andalus to India.

The exhibition, available until September 6, 2009, will travel several other cities such as Barcelona, Onculture.eu said.

The art, the history, the traditions and the geographies of the Islamic world from the Far East to the Iberian Peninsula are the subjects of the exhibition The Worlds of Islam in the Aga Khan Museum Collection.

Motion to Grant to His Highness the Aga Khan the Honourary Title of Citizen of Canada

When the Aga Khan stepped onto the University of Alberta campus Tuesday to speak to graduates, he brought a message of ethics, citizenship and respect for diversity.

Addressing a "knowledge deficit" in these areas is essential for pushing global development in the right direction, he told graduates, noting his Aga Khan Development Network has made such virtues a key part of its educational mission.

In an interview with The Journal's Keith Gerein, he expanded upon his remarks, sharing his views on the way forward both for political leaders and ordinary citizens.

Cambridge, United Kingdom, 12th June 2009 - His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, today received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the University of Cambridge’s Pembroke College – the third oldest of the Cambridge colleges.

The Aga Khan becomes the first Muslim to receive the distinction in the University’s 800 year history.

OTTAWA (AFP) — Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Tuesday proposed extending honorary Canadian citizenship to the Aga Khan, imam of the world's Shia Ismaili Muslims.

Harper said his government would seek "the consent of the House (of Commons) to extend honorary citizenship to His Highness," and urged all parliamentarians to support the motion.

The Aga Khan, Prince Karim Al Husseini, 72, is the spiritual head of the world's 15 million Ismaili Muslims.

He is the forth such person to hold the post since the 19th century.

DUSHANBE, June 1, 2009, Asia-Plus — Prince Rahim Aga Khan, first son of His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, is arriving in Tajikistan tomorrow on a three-day working visit, the MFA information department reported.

During his stay in Tajikistan, Prince Rahim will review programs of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Tajikistan. Prince Rahim is also expected to hold talks with a number of Tajik state officials, the MFA information department said.
