Karachi, (PR) : The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Best Hospital of the Year Excellence Award’ at the 12th Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Achievement Awards.

The award was presented by the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, to the AKUH, Pakistan CEO, Dr Farhat Abbas, T.I., S.I., at an award ceremony held in Islamabad on Tuesday, 8 October 2024.

KARACHI, FEB 28 (DNA) – Aga Khan University has received a$1.5 million grant from Wellcome Leap, a leading global health innovation organization. This significant grant will support a project that seeks to transform the treatment of β-Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), which have plagued South Asia, particularly Pakistan. These diseases have not only caused significant suffering but also imposed a heavy economic burden on society. This competitive grant provides a significant boost to the development of innovative gene therapies.

Aga Khan University (AKU) in Kenya, a valued partner of the Center for Global Health Equity (CGHE) at the University of Michigan, was recently awarded a $750,000 research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the use of AI technology to overcome barriers in specialized training required for diagnosing and predicting outcomes in cases of colorectal cancer in Africa.
