Aga Khan University to expand

The Aga Khan University is set to establish an Institute of Educational, Arts and Sciences in Arusha and a Faculty of Health Sciences in Nairobi, Kenya, under its initiative to expand its services in the region.

Under its expansion initiative, the university will develop relevant programmes and curricula to offer diplomas in accident, emergency and disaster management inline with regional and peoples' needs.

The Government of Uganda has generously provided the Aga Khan University with a grant of land in central Kampala for the establishment of this teaching hospital. A ceremony announcing the land grant and initiation of the Aga Khan University Hospital in Kampala, Uganda will take place on December 17, 2015 and will be presided by His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni and our Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan

Kampala — Aga Khan University Hospital is poised to expand its footprint in East Africa after acquiring land from government to build aspecialised health facility in Kampala.

The 60-acre piece of land, which is part of the former Nakawa-Naguru Housing Estate, will host a teaching hospital.

The facility will serve as hospital and a health training institution for the Aga Khan University located on Gadaffi Road in Old Kampala, which trains doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.

The Aga Khan Development Network has announced plans to embark on constructing a university with branches across East Africa. Mr Firoz Rasul, the president of the Aga Khan University of East Africa, said the institution will train local human resources and open centers of excellence in each member state so that they stop sending their students abroad. Mr Joseph Mwizerwa, the principal, of Aga Khan University, said the institution will be built and administered within East Africa; the mother university is in Pakistan.
