Aga Khan to Spend Sh2 Billion On Schools, Hospital - AGA KHAN TO SPEND Sh2 BILLION ON SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS - 2003-02-01
Posted July 9th, 2009 by heritageThe Aga Khan Development Network (Kenya) will this year spend over Sh2 billion to construct three schools in Mombasa and an extension to the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
The network's representative, Ambassador Anil Ishani said some Sh462 million will be used to construct the schools in Nyali and Kilindini.
Ishani said they are also spending Sh1.5 billion on the second phase of the Aga Khan Hospital to make it a specialised medical centre and will involve getting state-of-the-art equipment.

During the award ceremony at a Nairobi hotel, Aga khan chief Executive Officer, Ian Cripwell said the institution has invested in state of the art equipment to meet international standards.
The hospital was awarded the certification 'for conforming to the internationally accepted quality assurance standards for all clinical, diagnostic, administration and support services'.

Aga Khan Hospital in Major Surgery Breakthrough - AGA KHAN HOSPITAL IN MAJOR SURGERY BREAKTHROUGH - 2003-12-17
Posted July 9th, 2009 by heritageThe Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa has become the first health institution in the Aga Khan network in East Africa to perform open heart surgery.
A 43-year-old woman and a 20 year-old man underwent the operation free of charge on Saturday.
The development follows the acquisition of a Sh60 million heart - lung machine which was unveiled at the hospital yesterday.
The machine was donated by the Medical and Educational Aid to Kenya Foundation.

Minister for Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services, Mr Najib Balala and Mombasa DC, Mr John Egesa, escorted the visitor to the Moi International Airport.
Aga Khan who flew into Mombasa on Friday, attended the inauguration of the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa, an educational institution along Mama Ngina Drive.

IPI board and forum members and their spouses last evening attended a dinner hosted by the Serena Group ahead of the three-day talks, which officially open tomorrow.
The congress has attracted top editors and media executives, with special guests from 53 countries.
Issues concerning Press freedom in Africa, reporting the Islamic world and good governance will be highlighted, with keynote speakers from around the world.

Dr Rafique Keshavjee, East Africa head of academic planning, said the university will do this by harnessing ideas from an ongoing five-day conference in Nairobi.
The conference is dubbed “The Worlds of the Indian Ocean — connecting the past to the future.”
The conference is the first in a series that aims at engaging people of the Indian Ocean to study and discuss issues affecting them.
