The spiritual leader of Shiite Ismaili Muslims is the 49th heriditary imam

MUMBAI: The top spiritual leader of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims is expected to reach Mumbai on May 14 as part of an eight-day official visit to the country.

The 49th hereditary imam, prince Karim al-Husseni, who is a descendant of the Prophet Aga Khan, touched base in Delhi on Monday, where he met prime minister Manmohan Singh, president Pratibha Patil and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He is in the country to take part in the golden jubilee celebrations of the Aga Khan, which began in July last year.

2008, May 19-23: Prince Aga Khan,arrives in Dhaka today on a four-day state visit. Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed will receive him at Zia International airport. He will visit National Memorial at Savar and attend a state banquet at Hotel Sonargaon today. He will also host diplomatic reception and Imamat banquet at the same venue tomorrow. Prince Aga Khan will lay the foundation of the Aga Khan Academy at Basundhara tomorrow and the permanent Jamatkhana of the community on May 21.

2008, May 14:Mowlana Hazar Imam arrived at Airport at 8:30 PM, waved to Ismailis who lined up for 2 Km. Buses brought Jamats to airport, Hazar Imam leaned out and waved with his right hand. Girl guides and scouts were in the front. Jamats returning were congratulated for first Deedar of Golden Jubilee in Mumbay. NEW DELHI -- Today, the U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer awarded certificates to 100 new microscholarship recipients in the English Access Microscholarship Program at the MCD Primary School, Nizamuddin Basti. This two-year Access program is an initiative of the U.S. Embassy in cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation which has been working in India for over 15 years on improving schools and educational opportunities for poor and marginalized groups.

New Delhi, Apr 14 : The US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer today awarded English Microscholarship certificates to 100 students of an MCD primary school in Nizamuddin Basti providing them future educational opportunities and exchange programmes in the US.

The two-year Access programme is an initiative of the US Embassy in cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation which has been working in India for over 15 years on improving schools and educational opportunities for poor and marginalised groups.

Marginalized group of 100 students received Microscholarship at the MCD Primary School in New Delhi. The award was given by US Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer under the English Access Microschoralship Programme. The two-year programme is an initiative of the U.S. Embassy in cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation. The Foundation began implementing the English Access Microscholarship Programme in 2010 for 100 students residing in the Nizamuddin Basti. Students of 14-18-year olds are eligible under the scheme.

“This program gives students, who might otherwise not have the opportunity, the chance to acquire basic English language skills that lead to jobs!"
