ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: Pakistan on Thursday handed over its second largest bank - Habib Bank Limited (HBL) - to Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) against a two-phased Rs22.409 billion highest bid for 51 per cent shares along with management control received in December last year.

Secretary Privatization Ahmed Waqar and Sultan Allana signed the transfer of management agreement on behalf of the Privatization Commission and AKFED respectively. Finance Minister, Shaukat Aziz and Privatization Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh witnessed the signing ceremony.

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday said the government was keen to exploit the economic potential of Gilgit-Baltistan particularly its energy and natural resources for the prosperity of people.

Talking to Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said the government would continue to work with the Aga Khan Foundation for poverty alleviation and other social welfare and economic activities.

Hunza has once again achieved Unesco's Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation, a statement issued here on Monday said.The award of distinction for the year 2002 has been given to Ganish, a small settlement in central Hunza in the Northern Areas, for preserving four historical mosques.
In all, 142 entries from 37 Asia-Pacific countries competed for the Award, bringing to world attention the high quality of conservation work being done around the region.

President General Pervez Musharraf will discuss bilateral, regional and international issues besides exploring avenues to increase economic and trade ties with French leaders during his forthcoming three-day visit.
The President who is on a four-country official visit will arrive in Paris on July 2. He will hold talks with his French counterpart Jacque Chirac soon after his arrival. He would meet with French Parliamentarians of both houses. The Foreign Minister of France Dominique de Vilepin will host a dinner for the President and his delegation in the evening.

The ministry of overseas Pakistanis will launch two training programmes for nurses so that they could avail job opportunities abroad.Sources in the ministry told this reporter that the programmes would be launched in Islamabad and Karachi to impart training to 3,500 nurses. They said during the training, the nurses would be provided boarding and lodging facilities, besides a monthly stipend of Rs5,000.
The nurses will also attend language classes in the National University of Modern Languages, they added.

Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf today arrived in Paris on a two-day visit.

According to The News, he is scheduled to meet French President Zhak Chirak at luncheon and also to meet Prince Karim Aga Khan.

At his arrival Lee airport, he was welcomed by officials of French Foreign Ministry. The formal reception ceremony of President Musharraf will be held at French Presidential Palace.

Sources said President Musharraf, besides issues of economic cooperation, would take up issue defence cooperation also.
