My warmest thanks go to all of you who have received us so generously here in Hangzhou, our Chinese hosts and our many friends from UNESCO.

I am honoured by your invitation, and pleased for this opportunity to talk about two subjects that are very close to my heart – culture and development.

2012 April 4: Urumxi, China - In his first visit in China since 1981, H.H. The Aga Khan returned to Urumxi, China at the invitation of the Governor of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Mr Nur Bekri, to discuss AKDN projects to be undertaken in collaboration with Government of Xinjiang. Tashkurgan JK is located at 10,000 feet above sea level in the province of Xin Jiang, China. Actually every village has
its own JK, but foreigners are not welcome--govt orders. Therefore, although the local Ismailis, who call themselves Tajik, visit everyday, it is kept locked when not in use.
