Collaborate in projects, Aga Khan advises EAC

Arusha. His Highness the Aga Khan yesterday stressed the need to strengthen the capacity of the East African Community (EAC) member countries in managing development projects.
He added that the region could make significant strides if member states collaborated more in implementing joint projects and programmes. The spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims made the remarks in Arusha after signing a trilateral agreement between his Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), the German Development Bank (KFW) and the EAC for a health project.

Signing of Agreement between Aga Khan Development Network and East African Community 2012-07-18
Posted July 23rd, 2012 by librarian-hdArusha, 18 July 2012 - The East African Community (EAC) and the Aga Khan Development Network sign an agreement to strengthen and broaden cooperation in the areas of economic, social and cultural development throughout East Africa. A separate agreement was also signed between the EAC and the Government of Germany contributing 10 million euros towards the support of the Aga Khan University in East Africa.

The initiative is the result of a partnership with the Agricultural Markets Development Trust (AMDT), which is a collaboration with the governments of Denmark, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland, and local government authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, President of His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Tanzania, Mr Amin Lakhani, said under the leadership of His Highness, The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), worked tirelessly in Tanzania to create various development programmes.

Tanzania: Govt Praises Aga Khan On Investments 2016-07-20
Posted July 20th, 2016 by librarian-hdDar es Salaam — The government has commended the Aga Khan Development Network for its contribution to the economic development of the country.
Deputy minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Susan Kolimba said the network has invested heavily in education, healthcare, culture, infrastructure and tourism.
She said this on Monday evening during the commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the Ascension to the Ismaili Imamat of His Highness the Aga Khan as the 49th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili.
