In its editorial, the Daily Nation said 'It is a commitment to excellence that has seen the group grow from that day in 1959 when His Highness the Aga Khan bought a Kiswahili weekly called Taifa which became a Swahili daily, Taifa Leo, and which spawned the English-language Sunday Nation and Daily Nation in 1960.' "It gives me great pleasure to be with you this morning for the inauguration of the Nation Printing Plant. This ultra-modern printing facility makes use of the latest technology in the printing and publishing industry. The investment of seven hundred and fifty million shillings in this project is a show of the confidence that the Nation Group and indeed Your Highness, have in the future of this country. It's therefore, an important occasion for the Nation Group, the publishing industry and indeed, for Kenya.

Aga Khan to open Zanzibar Serena Inn-1997-03-12

A fifth unit in the Serena hotels chain will be opened in Zanzibar this Saturday by His Highness The Aga Khan who is expected to arrived in Dar es Salaam at the weekend, according to confirmed sources.

The 39m dollar of investment follows the opening of three other tourist lodges in the northern tourist circuit and a luxury tented camp.

The 52 room Inn is located in the heart of Zanzibar's historic Stone Town. Two historical buildings were renovated for the purpose, through the Aga Khan Fund for Culture.

Aga Khan grants Kenya Sh4.4b-1997-03-12

President Daniel Arap Moi yesterday thanked the Aga Khan Development Network for its grant to Kenya of Sh 4.4 billion to be utilised in the improvement of health and education.

He said the gesture will go a long way in improving the general welfare of Kenyans.

President Moi further said the organisation has for a long time supported Kenya's development efforts by promoting socio-economic development in various fields such as health, education and rural development.
