Pir Fazal Shah

My eyes got tired in searching (the Lord, because of knowing) when my Lord will come (so that I could) bow down to his feet seeing Him present and drop down in salutation to the Dearest Lord. ...1

O sweet Lord! I remember Thy name. O Lord! I remember Thy name. O God! I remember Thy name.

O Lord! I am gripped in love with You since childhood. The Lord shall bestow 'Noor' if love is clutched. What do the foolish know? ...2

Pir Fazal Shah utters supplication: O Merciful Lord! Have mercy upon me. If You will have mercy, my respect will remain intact, because Thy slave is a sinner so You redeem. ...3

Aaj Te Amar Aaviaa - Translation

Create:
Author: Anonymous (not verified)

Eji Aaj te amar aaviaa,

ane bhale padhaariyaa bhagavaan;

kaame kaaje je jiv bhulaa,

teno *ello gayo avtaara ji 1

*ello – pronounced “ero”

Meaning:

Today the (Eternal) Command (Amar) has arrived, and it is good

(bhale) that the Lord has come. Those who have been lost in

worldly affairs (kaam kaaj), their life on this world has gone wasted.

Eji Ek chandan paase li(n)b chhe,

te maae sugandh bahu apaar ji;

tene-re paase polaa vaansaddaa,

te maanhe sugandh nahin lagaar ji 2

Meaning:

Near the sandlewood (chandan) tree, there is also a lime tree;

which has a very good scent (absorbed from the sandlewood tree).

Near them (too) there is also a baamboo tree which does not have any fragrance.(i.e. cannot absorb from the sandlewood)

Explanation:

Literal Meaning:

Sandlewood is a tree which for centuries now has been used as "wood of the kings". The tree however takes many years to mature. However, it was also noticed that lime tree absorbs the fragrance of the sandlewood tree if they are planted in it's vicinity.

As such sandlewood traders use this trick and after cultivating lime trees near the sandlewood, they sell it as sandlewood.

But the baamboos inspite of growing in the vicinity of the sandlewood never absorb any fragrance.

Metaphorical Meaning:

The sandlewood here is Haazar Imaam. Near Him there are two kinds of people:

a) The not so beautiful from outside, bitter in taste, but pure inside who very easily "capture" His Firmaans and follow Him

b) The outwardly good people (hypocrites) who can never please the Imaam although they are near him (like the hollow baamboos which are very beautiful - but cannot absorb the sandlewood scent).

Eji Tem-re tame lok chho,

baavaan be-imaani ne vaari-e;

Gur-gat maanhe jaai ubhaa rahi-e,

e to kidhaa karatap parkaasi-e 3

Meaning:

You are just like them (trees that grow near the sandlewood). O Bava, (elderly people) change the unbelievers.

Go to the Jamaat-khaanaa and while standing(Dua karaavi), confess your deeds (Kartap)and attain enlightment.

Eji Gali-naa vastra vege vaari-e,

sri Bharam aasanne peri nav avi-e;

tethi dev lok alagaa chhe,

bhaai gali Gandhi-ne ttaalli-e 4

Meaning:

Do not wear clothes dyed in 'Gali', when visiting the seat of the Creator (place of worship) because then the angels will keep away from you.

Brothers, keep away from this dirty gali.

Explanation:

'Gali' ia a type of bark from which dye is made. It yields good colour, but brings out a very pungent smell. Syyed Imaamshaah is explaining that wearing such clothes in Jamaat Khaanaa is not advisable, because they keep away all the good spirits.

Eji Ek Shibi raajaa mahaa sati,

tenu sat jovaane hari aavyaa;

tenu pun jovaane Prabhu padhaariyaa,

taare holo thiyo moraar ji 5

Meaning:

There was a King Shibi of great spiritual strength and he was also known to be the most fair and just king.

The Lord came to Shibi Raajaa to “test” his principles of justness and his faith. He visited Shibi Raaja with Harichandra. The Exalted took the form of a dove and Harichandra took the form of a hunter.

They both entered Shibi Raajaa’s court.

Eji Ek sakaro te bettho sikaar maange,

raajaa laavo amaarun khaadha ji;

maago saaheb bijo aali-e,

e to aaliyo nav jaayre ji 6

Meaning:

In Shibi Raajaa court, both the hunter and the dove ask for protection and food. The hunter wanted the dove as its food, and the dove wanted protection from the hunter. Thus Shibi Raajaa being the just and fair king that he was, came to a solution that since the hunter wanted the dove as its food, the king would bring a scale and weigh the dove and he would cut his own flesh to meet the dove’s weight, so in this way, the hunter would get its food, and the dove would be granted protection.

Eji Taare ratie ratie ang kaapeo,

toye bhaari thayaa bhagvaan ji;

raajaa e paari sis vaai,

taare kar jaaleaa kiltaar ji 7

Meaning:

Then piece by piece Shibi Raajaa begain cutting his own flesh and weighing it against the dove's weight. The dove’s weight kept on increasing, and Shibi Raajaa kept on cutting his own flesh…he then realized that this was a test of his faith and he continued gladly to keep on cutting off his flesh - .until the Lord resumed His real form and asked Shibi Raaja to stop and the Lord would grant him his wish.

Eji Maango raajaa satvanti,

tame jiteaa-naa fal aalie- ji

ettlo to saaheb maangi-e,

tamaaraa darsan didaar ji. 8

Meaning:

“Ask Oh Great King , I am prepared to grant the fruits of your faith and the principle that you hold”. said the Lord

Only one thing I am asking - Your Darshan and Deedaar replied Shibi Raajaa

Eji Gunaah hamaaraa baks karo,

ane aalo amaraapuri raaj-ji

Pir Imaam Shaah ni venati,

tame sunno dev moraar ji;

termi sadi-no kol motto chhe,

tame bhuli ma jaa-o gemaar ji .....9

Meaning:

Oh Lord, forgive our sins, and give a kingdom of eternal bliss says Sayyed Imaam-shaah;

Oh brother momins, listen to me, the promise of the 13th century important. (the believers will be put to test of their faith)

Do not forget and ignore it.
