the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the 8th International Seminar, held in Sana'a, Yemen Arab Republic. Hazar Imam expressed the hope that the seminar would lead to a greater awareness of the issues involved in reconciling the potentially conflicting demands of modernity and tradition and that, 'when we arrive at the final discussion, we shall have learned something of practical as well as philosophical value to those architects and planners all over the Muslim world who are today, forging the environment of tomorrow.' Posted March 24th, 2010 by heritageMowlana Hazar Imam and President Evren of Turkey on September 4, 1983 presented the 1983 Aga Khan Award for Architecture to 11 outstanding projects located in nine countries from Yugoslavia to Malaysia (See the photographs and project descriptions in the present issue of AFRICA ISMAILI). The winners share US $500,000 of prizes from the fund established by the largest architecture award programme in the world.
